Though it's clear enough, Ys III J.D.K. Special is indeed a recording of the X68000 version of Ys III. Especially considering Ys IV Part II, I'm inclined to believe that the other J.D.K. Specials are in fact recordings of source/prototype material for "the Ys IV project" (compare to "the Turrican III project") and TLoX, whether or not there were planned PC-98/X68K/FMT versions.

I wonder if the Ys IV J.D.K. Specials are also recordings of a Sharp X68000 version. Maybe they were recorded from a different setup? Like the Bare Knuckle OSTs with the PC-8801 (YM2608) on Yuzo Koshiro Best Collection Vol. 2? I've also entertained the very possibility that maybe they are recordings from the canceled Sega-CD version.

I should also listen the Sharp X68000 soundtrack of the first LoH game and compare it with the J.D.K. Special.

The Ys IV J.D.K. Specials sound like OPN to me.
I thought all the Sega-CD games always used Redbook soundtracks.

To the best of my knowledge the only Ys games on the X68000 are that oddball port of Ys I and the Falcom port of Ys III; Ys IV at the time was a SFC (Falcom)/PCE (Hudson) only title.

Think on it like some PCE CD games like The Legend of Xanadu games for example. It is no necessary by any means.

Fixed.

I've never said Ys IV X68000 existed, just that maybe they originally composed the soundtrack for the Sharp X68000, like what Yuzo Koshiro did with the first two Bare Knuckle soundtracks on the PC88.

Maybe they used something with more voices, like the YM2608.

Then I apologise for the misunderstanding.

Some kind of computer, I'm sure. Thing with YM2203 is that it only has three FM channels; you'd hear PSG all the time, and you really don't with these J.D.K. Specials. They sound a bit different from Ys III X68000 though... sounds more like PC-98 YM2608 stuff, or even FM Towns YM2612 if you wanted, six FM channels oughta do it (worked wonders for Dinosaur, christ).

PC Engine CD and Mega-CD games can and do dip into their respective FM or PCM capabilities for music, and often. Let's see... Chi no Rondo before boss and stage clear (PCE base), some jingles in Shining Force CD (base FM), a huge chunk of both The Legend of Xanadu games (PCE base), and all the "'P' mixes" in Sonic the Hedgehog CD (PCM). There's a bazillion more, definitely.

Anyone knows if this release had a registration card? Never came around to see a copy with one (yet). Given the CD is fairly common this kinda bugs me as all other KICA-10XX releases seem to have one. Can anyone confirm?

My copy has no registration card, but it does have the obi. I didn't buy it new, so it could have had one at one point, but I tend to find that obis and registration cards are likely to be found together.

Finally found a proof of it's existence Now I wonder why the reg. card is rather uncommon on this release... perhaps different print runs!?
