This was some sort of a promotional CD released by Electronics Boutique. I'll try to upload a scan sometime soon.

Edit:
CD scan added. I couldn't find any information on the track names anywhere, and the internet wasn't of any help either.

Did you try Gracenote? Some companies release info to the Gracenote DB and should download automatically to certain music players, like Winamp.

There's nothing in there for The Sims. I did a CDDB search via Winamp too and all I got was "Sims" "Sims" Track 01 and so on.

So where DID the current names come from? Any info on who wrote what?

Also, a loooooooong time ago I aquaired a bunch of Sims tracks and included five not on this disc, but they are clearly 'cut from the same cloth'. Wondering if they may be from/on any other CDs...

Most of the song names come from http://jerrymartinmusic.com/, specifically http://jerrymartinmusic.com/the_sims_g1.php. Jerry Martin was one of the composers for The Sims and some of the expansions produced for it.

The exceptions are:
  • BoSIM Nova, Neighborhood, and Groceries: composed by Marc Russo, and given names far later in the 2007 digital download soundtrack: http://vgmdb.net/album/13378
  • Goin' Down The Road and Splatter: composed by Dix Bruce. These were named downroad.mp3 and splatter.mp3 respectively in ./Music/Stations/Country/ in The Sims 1. There is no MP3 metadata in these files. (I checked both the original 2000 version of The Sims 1 and The Sims Complete Collection.) We got the full name "Goin' Down The Road" (as well as who the composer was) in the 2007 digital download soundtrack for Streets of SimCity: http://vgmdb.net/album/5479. I think all we can do for splatter.mp3 is assume that "Splatter" is the full name. Edit: Splatter is listed on jerrymartinmusic.com, but a quick Google search for "Dix Bruce Splatter" shows that the English version of his song (which appears to be nameless, i.e. it's "Bluegrass #6" ingame) was featured in Streets of SimCity (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au9S8lCKFek) and was sung by Dix Bruce, so Dix Bruce was the actual composer. Neighborhood similarly appears on jerrymartinmusic.com when the 2007 soundtrack says it was actually composed by Marc Russo.

Anyway, I also uploaded a scan of the Babbage's / Software Etc. version of this soundtrack CD that I purchased here on VGMdb.

Oh, that's a different CD!
It says "17 songs", while the previous disc we had said "16 songs".

If there's really a difference of track number, we need a new entry.

I wish I still had this disc so I could compare the tracks from this other version...

Wow, didn't know there are two versions! What track is missing in a 16-tracks release?

Yeah, it sounds like the 16-track version was pressed first (or was put together first), since the 16-track version has the catalog number 896007 printed on both the front of the CD and the matrix, while the 17-track version has 897607 on the front of the CD but still has 896007 printed on the matrix.

I don't know who made the existing track listing, but I confirmed that it matches (including durations) with my CD.

... why are both versions smushed together in an entry? I uploaded the 16 track version and it got changed to a 17 track version instead of the 17 track version being a separate entry.

Well this page has shown 17 tracks since as far back as March 2010, which is the oldest snapshot on archive.org: https://web.archive.org/web/20100325...net/album/6202

The feed shows that the track listing wasn't edited until May 08, 2011 by WildmanCAL, who gave the tracks the current titles that we have now (here's a snapshot shortly after): https://web.archive.org/web/20111119...net/album/6202

But the feed only goes as far back as September 2009. I don't know if the feed shows the complete edit history for old posts or not.

The 16-track version might be lying and actually contain 17 tracks. The listing since 2010 is accurate for my CD, but maybe it is for the Electronics Boutique one too.

I'm new to VGMdb, so I don't know what you guys typically do in this situation.

Look at the first post in this thread. I added this item in December 2007. I know what I did. :P

That "alternate" scan was the ORIGINAL scan I uploaded... and I should still have the CD rip I made back then somewhere.

Edit: Welp, I just found the rip, with the scan, and it has 17 tracks, so I'm an idiot yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

But I think the original scan I uploaded (the one that says 16 tracks) is very likely the first version of the disc and it should -probably- be split to a child entry because of the different artwork and catalog number.

Done. I reverted this entry back into 896007 and created 897607 as a child.

It's great that you found your original rip.

Yes, the original entry I added had misprinted cover artwork.
