Techno to alot of people = generic electronic music. I don't think he meant the type of techno you'd see in soundcloud mixes, but could you source where he said that?

Of course! It's from a GameSpot interview from December.

I don't think that I could point out any specific artist or genre. I just try to listen to lots of different kinds of music. Everything from classical to jazz to lounge and techno, just a wide spectrum of music.

I don't have anything that's on heavy rotation on my iTunes, and I'm not listening to my own CDs all that often. I really just have Internet radio stations, and I flip the channels so that I hear a wide variety.
Reading this again, shoot, I knew I missed a genre or two in my list. I'm also surprised how his musical style's remained so consistent considering he's been listening to all kinds of things like he says.

[EDIT, 13 August] To prevent double-posting, I'm editing this post to wish Mr. Koji Kondo a happy birthday, and a thank you for 32 years of some of the most memorable pieces of video game music - or even music in general - ever composed. Thank You, Mr. Kondo!

Possibly, but doubt it.

http://www.nintendo.com/nes-classic/...oper-interview

Some interesting tidbits about the original Legend of Zelda, but nothing revelatory.

Oh, the random things you can find on the internet.

Might want to comb through this guy's works to see if there are any more. He also has a youtube account.

Since you bumped this thread, I guess it's worth mentioning that Kondo composed new music for Super Mario Maker 2 (releasing June 28th).

He has written at least 4 new course themes and maybe more.

Kondo doesn't sound too sure on that, at least not in the interview's translation. And some parts of the "Helicopter" track are so unmistakably Soyo Oka (think SNES SimCity), I don't believe it was done by Kondo. Kondo's test track either didn't make it into the game, or his memory failed him on the music he gave to Oka. We can rule out the possibility that Oka arranged Kondo's work because she received the sole credit for "Helicopter".
