I believe I found Takenouchi's birthdate - it's on the back cover of the Promo CD for Land Stalker (MCDS-1). It says July 8th 1967. I can't discern the rest of the back cover, would be interesting to know what it says.

Man! I wonder what ever happened to Motoaki! My 2nd favorite composer, and you cant find anything he did after 1996. (I don't believe that he did a pop song in 2000, there is no source on Wiki to back it up.)

He was in Germany for this last month, for this: http://www.gakugeki.org/2012/hougen/hougen_e.htm , which he composed the orchestral music for.

I also discovered that he's playing keys for a band called "Autumn-River Willow", under the name "dj".

So he is still active, just not in the vgm world (as far as i can tell)

Wow. Amazing research. How did you manage to find this stuff? People have been searching high and low trying to work out what happened to him.

Awesome. At least we know now he is alive and well, and even still involved with music!

And this seems to be his YouTube account, based on the info of him being "dj".
This video features him playing the keyboard trumpet thing (what are they called??)

Really nice finds, ibbod0!

This is exciting news. I know he isn't active in the game music industry at the moment, but just seeing the man alive is a relief.

So, Takenouchi, is that pronounced Tah-kay-NOH-chee or Tah-kay-NOH-OOO-chee?

Hmm, i'd say it's a combination of both ways, but more of the 2nd one. I don't speak Japanese so I'd like to know for sure as well.

Neither. It's tah-ke-no-u-chee, almost straightforward. pronunciation (might need Chrome to utilize the audio.) Unless you're talking about some other "american way" of pronouncing it...

It's not a long vowel (武内 = take - no¹ - uchi), so generally you'd pronounce the vowels separately: no - u. A couple examples of Japanese folks saying it: [1] [2].

Depending on the speaker, though, the vowel sounds might get merged together or even turned into a long o, like here: [3].

1: The no particle is sometimes omitted from place/personal names when written, even if it's still pronounced.

Oh, I think you misunderstood when I wrote "Tah-kay-NOH-OOO-chee" -I meant that to sound the way you're saying it's pronounced.

From the examples CHz provied, it seems like it's both. I thought that an "ou" was another way to spell "ō" and that that was just an OH sound. For example, Tenchi Sōzō is also spelled Tenchi Souzou, and pronounced SOH-ZOH. So that got me thinking that Takenouchi was pronouced Take-NO-chi. Maybe it's a combination of the two like dissident93 wrote.

Anyway, Thanks for the input.

Depending on the word, ou (おう) can be the long vowel ō, which is one long sound and can be also be written oh/oo/o/etc., or the two vowels o - u, which are pronounced separately and normally only written ou.

Both ou's in souzou are long (sōzō), and so it's pronounced as you said.

The ou in Takenouchi is not a long vowel, but rather two separate sounds, and so it should properly be pronounced separately as o - u. However, some speakers may blend the sounds together so it sounds more like ō, depending on how fast they're talking and so on. I wasn't trying to suggest you can pick whichever one you want, so sorry if that part of my post confused you.

Okay, got it, thanks. I'm glad to hear that it's definitely a separate o - u situation actually, because that's how I've been pronouncing it for as long as I've known about Motoaki Takenouchi. But I just recently thought about the "oh" possibility, and I was worried I'd been saying it wrong this whole time.

I'm just wondering if we should add his band's debut album here?

We do it for other composers, so I would say yes.

Alright, I added ARW's discography to the site (1 promo, 2 singles, 1 album). Although I'm going to assume that Takenouchi is the band's main composer (some of the songs I've heard sound like something he would have wrote for a game's ending theme, if he had the chance) nowhere that I've seen explicitly say he composed anything for the band.

I was able to find credits for one of their songs (Puzzle) and it has dj as the composer, Hacchi as the lyricist, and the band as the arranger. I'd guess it's probably the same for most of their songs.

Hello, I added the composer info from the CD Booklet of Jewelry Box. It's not a bad CD musically (could use a bit of autotune.. :P) definitely worth buying if you wanna hear more of Takenouchi's work.

Also, I don't know if anyone heard these beautifully dissonant things: https://soundcloud.com/motoaki-taken...olo-piano-2012 (seriously, he makes extreme metal sound like pop music)

yeah, I'm just glad to see him still composing music, even if they're not for games anymore.

here's the link. it might be difficult to reserve a copy at this point in time, unless you live in Japan. http://taketake.cc/arwcart/cart.cgi?...tail&no=000006

There's a good chance it will appear on Amazon Japan in the future, where you can at least pay for it with a card. When I tried to go through the above store to get the ARW CD, I remember that bank transfer was the only method of payment. So probably best to wait for Amazon.
