Updating tracklist on this:

Old:

Quote:
02 KNOCK YOU DOWN!~最強-VICTORY ROAD- (LIVE A LIVEより) 6:50
04 Miβgestalt & Todesengel (SaGa Frontier 2
06 nuclear fusion (聖剣伝説 3より) 3:33
10 The Spirit Chaser(SURLENT)
- Removed artist names from the tracks, they shouldn't really be part of the track title. I think the only time this would be okay would be if it said something like "Track Title (feat. Bob Smith & Tina Jones)", but you usually only see that in non-soundtrack releases.

- Removed the (より ...) parts, it's not listed on the tracklist like that on the back or in the inserts.

- Changed the '-' on jp/track 1 to '―' to correctly reflect the tracklist

- Added a single space between The Spirit Chaser and (SURLENT)

- Added (NOVOISKI REMIX) to tracks 3 and 4 on the bonus disc

- Added クロノ・トリガー to the beginning of track 3 on the bonus disc

- Changed original Japanese tracklist from "English" to "Japanese" (It was incorrectly labeled)

- Added English tracklist. Track titles pulled from various other albums' English tracklists.

Up for debate:

- There's an easily identifiable double space (' ') between the game and the song title in the tracklist. Could take that literally and add two spaces in the tracklist, you could also convert the double space into a unicode space since it's naturally larger, or you could take it loosely and just drop the game name altogether. I opted for the first option (literal, two ASCII spaces)

- Left all game names romanized.

I've heard some people disparage this album. I'm listening to it in full now (finally). And uh ... this version of nuclear fusion from SD3 is divine.

I get it, "dubstep is dumb" but it's not all Skrillex-clone here, and even if it were, it kind of works with the source material. I dig this album like crazy.

I think my word for this album would be "obnoxious". About a quarter of the samples for it are pretty decent and the rest, I barely got through the samples. All of the rock stuff sounds absolutely horrible and I can do without much of the electronica edge the rest of the album has.

The tracks I liked were the Sigma Harmonics one, the Tactics track (my favorite actually...surprisingly...I recognize the melody), the Live a Live LASTTRACK arrangement and Spirit Chase (almost sounds like something off one of the Chips albums...not great, but interesting and listenable). The rest, I would have hoped for more.

And coming from someone who doesn't know what "proper" dubstep sounds like, that first track is just downright stupid.

I'm not a fan of track 1 either. But I agree that the Sigma Harmonics arrangement is ridiculously good. It fits the source composition and the whole Hamauzu style crazy well. It was a big surprise for me, I thought they'd ruin the song.

I think they could've done a better job with FFLegend's (SaGa 1's) final battle music, maybe included more of the chip source (would also have just been a good choice for SQChips2). But other than that, I'm just really pleased with the quality of most of these arrangements.

But I totally respect your opinion on the matter, gfX. I just had to share that in general I was pleased with the album.

Yeah, I just thought was interesting that the tracks I liked were mostly electronica, not rock and mostly unfamiliar to me. The FFIV Battle theme sounded like it had promise, but I think they forgot to play the melody in the sample.

edit -- scratch that, I'm away from home and my iPod only has disc 1 of Battle SQ on it. If I had to guess though, it'd have FFV Dear Friends and FFVI's epic character medley end credits among other things.

that particular track is from the ending theme of FFIV, mostly remixed from the SQ Chips version.
