What's New tweaks
Thanks for the What's new tweaks, Blah! =} I left some feedback on the suggestion site, but wanted to thank you here as well!
Apparently I can post threads in this forum, even though I can't move the thread I accidentally created in this forum. Hahaha. Sorry.

Hmmm.. don't know what to think about the changes.
It's space consuming (while the old version was maybe boring but had good proportions) I wonder what will happen in a Comiket day with 30+ releases.. Maybe a button to expand/contract the whole thing could be usefull. |

There is currently already a button to expand more releases. It currently only seems to show the top 8 initially.
If you really want to get fancy, you could combine different types of displays, the new one with the old one, depending on the record count retrieved from whatever query is used to pull the data. For example, on a Comiket day (row count > 10), display a list, possibly in two columns to use up some of the extra horizontal space. For a normal day, (row count <= 10), display albums with the new method. Regardless, with the date and "added by" removed from the tiles, they could be shrunk to about 3/4 their width, I would think.

Seems a bit bulky to me, this is really what the calender is for. A list may be 'boring' but it sits better on the page.
While I'm at it, I think the options menu looked better in its old location. It seems kind of in the way where it is. Last edited by Ira; Feb 18, 2010 at 01:22 PM. |

There's further planned tweaks, don't worry. For example, I'm going to experiment with switchable stylesheets (which we currently use to modify the color coding appearance) to change the display of the new releases on the fly.
Also, the options menu is now a button because I plan to make it a dialog popup soon, since I'm going to add more content to it which would make a menu dropdown too small. |

Oho. On the topic of options, could settings be stored server-side for people who have accounts?

They could, but that'd mean you wouldn't be able to have settings customized per browser (or per computer).

Can't really think of many cases where you'd want that anyway. If that's an issue then saving options could be optional (a meta-option?) It's not much of an issue anyway, would just be convenient.

I'm thinking NSFW settings for home vs work computers. But yeah, I suppose that's doable.

I like the stylesheet options idea.
By the way, another alternative for What's New would be just to show the tiles for today's albums and a list for the previous few days.
