As I was pointed by Daemonskald, I am adding this enclosure release... or was it a promo/gift/reward?
I don't have much info about it besides what Daemonskald told me, so I hope someone else might help in filling the blanks.

front case? you sure that picture is a front?
comparing to all singles on that type, the front case should be the back. :/

As there is no front cover to... cover the 8cm CD and its tray, it's safer to put the only piece of paper as a front cover. You won't find people advertising the current "back" as the front...
You have it in your hand yourself... You know what I mean.

VGMdb is not consistent either about front/back because many assume back always have barcode and data stuff on it. Quite wrong with old anime EP...

And for the record, for single of "that type" as you say, "front" of these SCD are in fact their "back" (if you consider front to be the side to access the tray...)

I think I got confused in your logic or how you wrote... (or maybe too tired to think)
I took some pictures to compare.

I do assume where barcode is, then its the back. But I am confused in your logic. You may be right, I am just not sure on the understanding part of mine.

Saber Marionette, that is the front, and since the single of SMobious does not have a front to cover the cd as SMarionette, that "back" turns to be "front".
Is that it?

But if a single of the type of SMarionette as the barcode in the "front" instead of the back, we swap it?

As you can see on your pictures, Silent Mobius has no front cover like on Saber Marionette. Only a back cover. But obviously we cannot keep Silent Mobius front with just a tray and its CD. It was always advertised with its "back" cover. So, I swapped and put the back as front. Simple

Most of SCD are just like you have with Saber Marionette. You flip front part to uncover the CD and the tray. Most have all "data" (barcode, release date, etc...) on back cover.

But there are exceptions like http://vgmdb.net/album/27472
You see barcode here? Yes! So, logically it's a back cover. Try to access the CD, you can't from this side. So, again, it's back cover.
Really? No. It's one of some exceptions in SCD production. What should be back cover is in fact the front. Why? Because it is advertised like this if you look at Nanno discography. So, I swapped both sides names. It's the way of looking at the product that matters, not the technical part of it.

You don't make this mistake with manga I guess; you know their front cover are on their back Just kidding...

Same thing with http://vgmdb.net/album/44887. I swapped the sides because it's obvious what should be "advertised" as front.

As for EP (vinyl), look at this one: http://vgmdb.net/album/16251
Front & back have been swapped. Why? I guess people here at VGMdb want to see more the anime side than the artist side because VGMdb is all about that: anime/game.

This one is "correct" (tecnically speaking) http://vgmdb.net/album/53393

Because before artist image was much stronger than the product's. It was way more important to advertised your brand new idol or the already established band to promote the single.
It then switched to the opposite. Look at your Saber Marionette SCD, the anime in front, Megumi on its back even if she was the reigning queen of seiyuu...

I understood it all, expcept the manga part. Not sure if I get. xD
kidding. xD

The Ep, I confess they look confusing here in vgmdb with back and front which is which. Again, I go for the barcode as a reference.
But now I got it. Thanks for clarifying it for me
