Default Next image feature?

Thought that when you are viewing enlarged covers of soundtracks it may be more convenient to have [next image and previous image] links. Just to make it easier when viewing large number of images from a soundtrack instead of having to hit back all the time. For ex. where many images are present like here - http://www.vgmdb.net/db/albums.php?id=5390

The links on the album page are going to be phased out in favor of the new system on the gallery pages. If you haven't tried that, you should; it's one of the neatest things on the site.

Check out

http://www.vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=gallery&id=5390

and click on the images. BTW, this feature isn't available to guests. The gallery images are only clickable to registered logged-in users.

The live gallery is pretty neat, but honestly, I like being able to load up the individual pages for each image as well. Mainly in the cases where it's an album I have a copy of but none/few of the scans, and I want to download them all; I like being able to open up each individual gallery page into tabs from the album pages and save the images as they load instead of having to browse the gallery one image at a time.

I'm going to do a re-design of the gallery pages soon, to display additional info beside the thumbnails (and to make the page less ugly). There'll be an extra link to open a particular image in a new window.

The new system is really neat yes, and you can use the Arrow keys to swap covers.

I also love the old system for only one reason:
in the new system, the image is automatically resized to fit on the screen.. and does not really reflete the real size of the image (and you can't know it until you download it -it will of course download the real big image-).

A also found that little "loading..." frustrating, i am a "progress bar lover"

If you put your mouse over the image in the popup, there'll be an icon to expand the image to full size at the bottom right.

Allright, so the new display system is nearly perfect

A listing of the available covers is still a good feature i think.

You click on them to zoom them, then you can use the left and right keys to move onto the next images. You can also click-drag the enlarged image to move it around the screen.

It works like this:

Click on the thumbnail to expand it to as large as your browser window can accommodate. Hover your mouse over it, and if the actual dimensions are larger, a zoom icon will appear at the bottom right. Click on that to zoom to full size. (It should work in 2.0.0.11)

Try out Liontamer's keyboard navigation tips, too.

Yes, I got the click to zoom, I got the back-and-forth nav, I can move them around my browser window, but I just don't get a cute little "zoom this even more" thing in the corner. Also, the initial click zooms only to like a 200 pixel image, and I know the images have to be larger than this (the booklets scanned at like 20dpi? no way). All I can get when I'm looking at the link is to cover-medium or something like that.

If you get only a 200x200 zoom, that means the original uploaded image is only 200x200 pixels (therefore no full-size icon) and the medium cover displayed on the album page has actually been resized larger. Silly, I know, I'll have to fix that sometime.

You don't have to fix it; I think it operates fine. Just display the dimensions and file size next to the thumbnails so people know what's up.

Yeah, the problem is, I've seen larger art when one of my friends was browsing vgmdb, so I know I'm not a noob, and I dearly hope I'm not smoking crack.

Real dims would probably help me ensure that, though, yes.

example: aren't these supposed to be big?
http://www.vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=gallery&id=279

should I screenshot with my mouse cursor over top of the image?

Hm... there is a hotlinking prevention mechanism in place that redirects you to the cover-medium version of the image if you try to access the full-size version without an authorized referrer (i.e. vgmdb.net).

Is there something with your browser or network configuration that somehow strips the referrer when you click on the thumbnail?

I might have to change the system to start outputting images through a php script instead.

Ahaaa, referer protection. This might be the problem, though I'll have to see if it's within my control or not. If there's any way for me to, uh, circumvent that (without sounding like I'm trying to spider the site or hotlink), that would be nice. Perhaps some sort of passkey-based thing that requires a user to be logged in (sorry if you already had this idea, just trying to help)?

If I output the image via php, I could take advantage of the vBulletin user session for authentication. I'll look into it.

I know it's only been a couple weeks, but has any progress been made or is there testing I can do?
