Default Rockman & Forte composer breakdown discussion

EDIT: Complete confirmed credits below.

Might as well have it's own thread, right?

I'll put forth my thoughts, but I haven't deeply analyzed this score like those I've done in the past. I'm using kyubihanyou's post from the Chiptuned Rockman thread as a starting point:

Kirikiri-chan (Toshihiko Horiyama - Confirmed): One Youtube video said he did Coldman. I'd buy that, since he's the lead composer and all. (Title, Player Select, Stage Select, Shop, Database, Game Start, Coldman, Tenguman (?), Stage Clear, Get a Weapon, Save & Load, King Stage Demo, King Stage, Game Over, perhaps?)---->Anything with a whailing guitar that sounds like Yuki Iwai

Naoshi Mizuta: Staff Roll sounds like Opening Stage---> Also, anything that has a more complex, slower melody and very low use of guitar and/or is generally longer [Think Dan's Theme from Street Fighter Zero]. ---->Pirateman, Tenguman, Astroman; Also, anything with a panflute sound--->Dynamoman, Magicman, Burnerman (Connection made from similar melody between Dynamoman and Opening Stage)

Akari Kaida: Other than Groundman, Boss has the same-sounding start; the bassline in Last Stage is the same as the one found in the first six seconds of Boss, just slowed down a little; Crystal Stage and King Stage Boss both have the same organ-esque sound as Boss and Groundman.

Also, the GBA version was arranged by T. Arisaka

Confirmed credits are Groundman by Kaida, Museum/Opening Stage by Mizuta, and apparently Coldman by Horiyama? (though the beginning of Coldman does sound like Horiyama, the guitar part reminds me more of Kaida...)

Anyway, I agree with kyu crediting Horiyama for Title, Player Select, Stage Select, Shop, Game Start, Stage Clear, Get a Weapon, Save & Load, King Stage Demo, King Stage, and Game Over.

Database I would attribute to Mizuta. The meandering melody and slow, laidback chord progression reminds me more of his style.

Tenguman and Pirateman, I believe, belong to Kaida.

Astroman, which I adore, also reminds me more of Kaida. In fact, it sounds like it could fit right into Breath of Fire III as a dungeon theme.

Burnerman doesn't really sound like Mizuta to me. I think it's Horiyama because the melody reminds me of Cloudman from MM7 a bit.

I would agree with crediting Dynamoman and Magicman to Mizuta.

Wily Castle, Boss , and Last Boss make me think of Horiyama.

I agree about Seals/Crystal Stage sounding like Kaida.

And finally, Credits sounds like Mizuta.

Discuss!

Coldman isn't official; I just used it as an inspirational starting point. Observe the names of the top two videos here to see what I meant by that statement: http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...kiri+chan&aq=f. Regardless, it still stands out from the others, even the next-closest sounding (Pirateman), and I would have come to that same conclusion by the instruments used [I attribute the distortion guitar to Horiyama, the synthesizers to Naoshi, and the organ to Kaida, which is why I credited them as such.

King Stage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2shHCsqFRY) is my purest source of SNES Horiyama, I used any exclusive instruments here to attempt to identify his RM7 and R&B work; RMX is more of a stretch since it's more tone-based judgments.

Also, if someone could link Horiyama's forum in the Artist Discussions to his page, that would be great, as it is currently unlinked. [True source of kirikirichan = Toshihiko Horiyama link there]
http://vgmdb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4028
http://vgmdb.net/artist/1358

Here's some Naoshi comparisons **[Now that you mention it, Shop sounds like Burnerman, Database like Astroman, and Player Select like Opening Stage; consider my above classifications for them changed to Naoshi "groovy" Mizuta]**
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kUlQkj8eIg - Dan Stage (SFZ1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOI3gyd-a-U - Ken Stage (SFZ1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XG-Vdox934 - Chun-Li Stage (SFZ1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_72YhxP8xU - Staff Roll 1 (SFZ1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13Sxvo3iM8I - Staff Roll 2 (SFZ1)

And yes, I will agree that I underrepresented Kaida; it's been a while since I listened to Running Through the Cyber World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtX-oC5eCnc). Tenguman is now under Kaida. [EDIT (10/30): Confirmations for Cold Man and Tengu Man being done by Kaida are below in johnX's post]

OK, so here's my updated list:
Spoiler:

Toshihiko Horiyama: Title, Save & Load, Stage Select, Stage Start, Stage Clear, Get a Weapon, King Stage Demo, King Stage, Game Over
Naoshi Mizuta: Player Select, Opening Stage, Shop, Database, Astroman Stage, Burnerman Stage, Pirateman Stage, Dynamoman Stage, Magicman Stage, Staff Roll
Akari Kaida: Coldman Stage, Groundman Stage, Tenguman Stage, Boss, Crystal Stage, King Stage Boss, Last Stage

EDIT: Also, I just noticed for the GBA version. T. Arisaka... that's Chihiro Arisaka, isn't it? All she did for the GBA was sound conversion for ports (Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival, Magical Quest 3, Aladdin).

Oh yeah, that's Chihiro all right

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYwEGRHwNM8 ---> SSFIITR

Now to work on another obscure Rockman SNES game trio: Oka, Tomi, and Noririn of Megaman Soccer...

Title*, Opening Demo 1 (Sports News), Opening Demo 2 (Danger), Field Select, Game Start, Wood Field, Blues Field, Dust Field, Needle Field, Pharaoh Field, Goal, Ending 2 ---> Brass
Title*, Rock Field, Cut Field, Elec Field, Skull Field, Fire Field, Dr. Wily Demo (Castle Intro), Wily Field, Enker Field, Ending 1, Formation Select, Password, Game Over ---> Guitar, harpsichord, low windwind
Blues/Protoman's Whistle ---> On its own

*Title = Linking element; all by one person, it would seem...

Oka- BGM (most if not all)
Tomi- Sound Programmer [in credits] (most likely SE only); Blues/Protoman's Whistle (?)
Noririn- Also SE (?); Blues/Protoman's Whistle (?)

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Kirikiri-chan is Toshihiko Horiyama!?

Ok, I think I just found out why I like Coldman and King Stage.

Mega Man & Bass' soundtrack is still rather unimpressive on the whole IMO.

Well done; this clears it up a little.

Looks like the bosses were evenly split; it would make the most sense for both Mizuta and Kaida to have each done four if Horiyama did none of them, which now appears to be the case. Pirate Man, which was the closest-sounding to Cold Man as I previously mentioned (and also has the same piano as Tengu Man), must also be Kaida's as Jormun said.

NICE! three of my favourite tracks in the game. based on that, i'd speculate that she did the credits as well.

Ok... so I'm browsing Facebook right? Then I see a convo between some guy and Akari Kaida. He asked for the real name of "Kirikiri-chan" and she said "Kirikiri-chan is not Toshihiko Horiyama. Thanks!" Then she said "Of course I do tho, I am not gonna write here on FB. I feel not good to tell this unless he reveals from himself cuz he decided to have his name as it on the credit."

Interesting..

I, wow. That is super unexpected, given that he's confirmed to be the "Kirry" in Mega Man X.

Really shocked, and can't say I have any suggestions for alternate identities.

Bump for interest. So far there's four songs confirmed.

Naoshi Mizuta - Museum
Akari Kaida - Coldman
Akari Kaida - Groundman
Akari Kaida - Tenguman

Don't suppose there's been any more information unearthed lately?

Well Kaida on facebook is one thing...so we have it up in the air on Horiyama as Kirikiri-chan. In the meantime, the popular myth persists, and I am not sure what to make of it. Though it would not surprise me if Horiyama WAS Kirikiri-chan, written under another pseudonym to throw us off.

It really is very strange. As far as I know, all Capcom aliases had been uncovered and cleared up until now. There are also some songs here that sound unquestionably like his style (such as the boss theme).

Now, I don't think Kaida is lying, and she has no reason to far that matter, but she's always been very weird when discussing composer information with fans. It's one of the reasons we still don't have a BoFIII breakdown. It's as if these big game companies instill fear into their former employees should they ever discuss details of what they contributed.

I personally would not be surprised if Kaida is incorrect, and that she's either mistaken/confused or under some sort of obligation not to reveal it. Horiyama just makes way too much sense musically and namewise.

But since it's just a feeling and there isn't really any other evidence on the matter, I'm trusting the word of one of the composers of the game for the time being.

I concur with what Raizen said. Hopefully the credits from the new box set will clear this up.

From the Rockman 2 Box liner notes, Kaida actually thought Kirikiri was Naoaki Iwami, was surprised he didn't compose.
