Masashi HAMAUZU - ANIME TV series - Binbogami ga! (2012-07-04)
I was just browsing upcoming summer anime TV series to see if some of my favorite composer is scoring some of them and I found this:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...e.php?id=14191 I can´t wait to hear Mr. Hamauzu music for this. I hope he got enough budget for recording music with orchestra. All the best Porter

Yeah, I was surprised to see his name pop up. The only other VGM composers working on anime next season are Yasunori Mitsuda and Maki Kirioka, who are teaming up for Chouyaku Hyakunin Isshu: Uta Koi.

I am really curious if the music for Binbogami ga! will be something similar to his FF music. I really like his style and I hope for some solo piano compositions.

anime music from vgm composers isn't generally at the same level of vgm (I never expected great things) Last edited by Phonograph; Jun 10, 2012 at 01:31 PM. |

Anime composers generally have stricter deadlines and less freedom to compose whatever they like. I'm glad that Hamauzu is getting a chance to compose, and whatever he composes, I'll buy, but I agree that I wouldn't expect something at the same level as, say, SaGa Frontier II or the better parts of FFXIII.

Based on Sakuraba's TV & anime work I actually feel the opposite, but I guess Sakuraba's capability of handling deadlines as well as my taste are the exceptions...

deadlines? for animes?
you know an anime season (mostly 13eps) is finished months before broadcasting? anime composers can have a couple of months to compose music, they don't make the shit at the last minute |

A couple of months is different from the year or 3/4 year that game composers can get on larger projects (sometimes even longer). It's Hollywood where people have to throw music together at the last minute. There are horror stories of times when a movie was scored in a few days, by a whole squad of people working overtime.

to me, if a composer needs like 3/4 year to make music, he must change his job
some jap composers have several projects in the year (anime, drama, maybe other stuff) if vgm composers get more time, it's simply because game companies take their time for making their game (maybe too much time) unlike anime production companies it's very rare that an announced anime get delayed unlike game companies |

I think a few months is usually enough time to get the job done for a 13 episode anime. It's not like they need to compose a large amount of music or anything. That said, deadlines can still be problematic for anime composers. I recall last year Taku Iwasaki had been complaining on his blog about deadlines while he was working on the soundtrack for C.
Oh, and some of the larger anime projects go into production two years before airing. |

It takes a long time. That's just to get the notes right. Add to that the jobs of producing scores for players, recording, mixing, and implementation, and it takes longer. For an hour and a half to two hours of music, a composer deserves at least a year to create something of high quality. There is the rare composer that can write quickly and efficiently and not suffer in quality (geniuses like Mozart and Shostakovich), but mere mortals need more time. |

And of course, composer might waste few days composing the best thing ever, but producers can shoot it down saying that it's not what they wanted.

I remember Uematsu's One-Winged Angel was originally received as something like - ya, not bad, but not what we really wanted lolz
Good scores must take time, rush jobs hardly ever go well. Seriously though, really good music isn't something that can be pulled out of a** in a flash. |

Hamauzu himself reveals he was only given 3 weeks to compose 40+ tracks this time, while he could use up to several week per track in game production. |

I watched yesterday first episode of this anime series and only thing which should bring me again for second episode is Hamauzu music. Anime is really crazy, but the score by Hamauzu has its charm and you can hear there composers trademarks.

Music sounds very promising. Really hope they consider an official release once the series has aired. Like Porter already said, the show is quite crazy -- I still enjoyed the first episode
