you don't have to publicize it. maybe i should, now.
changed it back. i want to see it stick. i want to see the rules changed, because the core of vgmdb only has a weak sense of consensus at the moment. romaji is wrong too. but that's a far better way of dealing with it than translations. if you absolutely refuse to have the original language as the default (WHY?!), then use the next best thing. the big difference is that translations don't have anything to do with the actual track titles. they are completely made up from long years of study of the two languages in question (well, except for those clowns who just spam dictionary definitions), and they require a lot of thinking and inner debate to get Just Right. it is still wrong in the context of accurate information. if it is not on the album, it is wrong; otherwise, the presence of a tracklist at all would be completely pointless. whatever the album uses is what needs to be default, at all times. i would prefer some kind of special "notes"-like section for things like translations, but i'm not opposed to compromise with the system we have. all i ask is that for god's sake let me check that box please. it's really important. ... god damn it i just looked in irc this is all pointless edit: yes this means that in-game translations are (almost as) useless too Last edited by Despatche; May 10, 2013 at 12:27 PM. |

whether or not "SHINKAI" is the name given to a place in the game is irrelevant. this page is about the album "NIGHT RAID SOUND TRACK", not the game it represents. "SHINKAI"/"shinkai" is wrong anyway, as is "DEEP SEA"/"deep sea"; it's just that the first is less wrong because it actually has something to do with the subject. romaji's a lot like furigana, actually.
(i could always check, though. i'm sure the terms are stage names or something, like mars matrix.) Last edited by Despatche; May 10, 2013 at 12:30 PM. |

I reverted the edit, since it's less painful than removing all the translations from our every other English trackists that have been submitted for 7 years.

Do you think we should retain the artist names in Japanese too if they're written that way in the booklet? This site's intended audience is English-speaking, and, even if more Japanese people use it, they don't seem to be having too much difficulty with things as they are. If anyone else wants to see Japanese as the default language for all albums that use it or views translations as inherently "wrong", they're certainly not making too much noise about it.
