Enhancing the alias system
As editors know, we can specify an artist entry as an alias and link it to another artist entry. However there's something questionable about, say, linking an artist's maiden name to her current name and calling it an "alias"; it doesn't seem right to call a slight variation in spelling or an abbreviation an "alias" either.
So I propose we further specify the type of alias. A dropdown box to select "Name Variation", "Pseudonym", "Former Name". What other options do you think should be there? This can be used to tidy up the alias display in the discography too, since we probably don't need to display "(as xxxx)" if it's just a spelling variation. |

I can't really think of other options there besides those 3, but the ideas there are excellent. I'd actually say just go right ahead and implement this, and if other suggestions for classifications come up, then add them as they come to light.
