So, Rockman Battle & Chase won't get full release in this boxset, pity. Otherwise really interesting list.

Now, for those of us that have been following Capcom since they woke up and realized people love Megaman music, THIS is something worth adding (and I already own Power Fighters and Battle and Chase). Glad to see the Gameboy getting some love.
Fair warning: Don't expect much from the Neo Geo Pocket version of Battle and Chase. I remember buying the game on Day 1 and being disappointed they only did a small handful of themes. My point of interest...What is the difference between CPS1 and CPS2 Power Battle music? I am assuming the CD version was CPS2. |

MM1 GB: AFAIK the Tomozawa credit comes from a bare list of names registered to the game in the Canadian Copyrights Database, and there are several other Capcom sound staff in the list too.
MM2 GB: Don't think it's confirmed that Yamazaki wrote the whole soundtrack, he just included it in his works. MM3 GB: Likewise, Murata & Osada credits come from their works lists and don't say they wrote all the music (Murata says "all original stage BGM"). MM4 GB: Another works list credit, Murata says "all original stage BGM" but thinks one song was written by an (unnamed) part-timer. MM5 GB: Murata doesn't even have this game in his works list! R&F: Akari Kaida has said explicitly that Kirikiri-chan isn't Toshihiko Horiyama. |

Looks like I still need to do research. At the least, Tomozawa, Murata, Osada and Yamazaki did some arrangement of existing tunes.
I took the Murata info from multiple sites including: http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=Kouji_Murata http://capcom.wikia.com/wiki/Kouji_Murata And by the admission of his works list, it IS incomplete. There could be stuff we don't know about listed on there. Sites for Kenji Yamazaki cited include: http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?...Kenji_Yamazaki As for Kirikiri-chan, we may never know. Though Horiyama is the most likely suspect, given his alias of Kirry.

Aren't we counting our chickens before they hatch with the stuff in the notes field? I was really happy to see all that (the only one I really care about confirming is Makoto Tomozawa for Dr. Wily's Revenge) and then come in here and seeing it's not 100% confirmed.

Whoa whoa whoa WHOA. Rockman's Soccer?! I just played that about 4 days ago and rediscovered how much I dig that soundtrack. I hope that's really what's going to be on disc 10.

looks like it. I doubt a soundtrack with liner notes straight from the source would mention him working on the game if he really didn't.

Thanks!) |

according to the notes, "tracks 52-55 on disc 10 are reused from past CD releases." I think you meant 52-54. If the Mega Man 8 opening has been on cd before I need to know which album it was on.

While Makoto Tomozawa's never openly denied being the composer of Dr. Wily's Revenge - though I'm not sure anyone's actually asked him - I was recently struck by how similar the first level theme in SolarStriker, the game that Minakuchi Eng. worked on immediately before MM: DRW, was to the first Wily Stage music from that game. And SolarStriker was one of Toru Osada's soundtracks.
As for 5 GB, this may sound crazy, but does anyone think that Kinuyo Yamashita may possibly have composed that soundtrack? I mean, her worklist doesn't list 5 GB, but it also doesn't list The Wily Wars, which she's confirmed to have composed the music for at pretty much the same time. |

That's actually not a contradiction in itself - the composers on the Game Boy sub-series were directly employed by Minakuchi Engineering (and Biox for the second one) rather than Capcom, so it's technically possible for Tomozawa to have done the music for Dr. Wily's Revenge, and then Aladdin to have been his first actual work for Capcom.
That said, I still think Osada is more likely the composer on the first one. Granted, the compositions in Dr. Wily's Revenge do seem a lot more complex and nuanced than the ones in SolarStriker, but that could be explained as Osada having better gotten to grips with the Game Boy's sound chip. |

Ah, how I wish I knew this sooner! It seems we have another capcom game with uncredited composers.

The Canadian Copyrights Database has Dr. Wily's Revenge registered twice, one record owned by Capcom of Japan and the other by Nintendo of America, and both list the same nine authors: Yasushi Ikeda, Keiji Inafune, Hayato Kaji, Toshio Kajino, Kiyomi Kaneko, Miki Kijima, Masatsugu Shinohara, Makoto Tomozawa, and Koji Yoshida. Just that list of names, no roles.
Ikeda, Kajino, and Tomozawa are all sound people. |
