Store Links to Out of Print Albums
Should we keep/add links to places like Play-Asia, CDJapan, etc. that will never restock an album, or should we remove them? For example, in the Sword of Mana Premium Soundtrack, there are links to both stores, and both are out of stock because the album is out of print. So it's not really "Available at"

Realistically, we have to only expect more efforts from Trusted Editors and Staffs, even if out of print links annoy users, since normal users can't delete links. Considering much of shop links are already posted by an auto-script (and I myself nowadays don't add so much) and less manually, I'm not sure how much time we could take to monitor links. One possible solution is to enable normal users to delete (or deactivate) links.

Maybe we ought to "deactivate" them, the same way that we let users deactivate regular links.

I think I was the one who mentioned this some time ago, but I was voting for a way to put 'flags' on shop links, e.g. to show the OOP status.
Deactivating or even removing the links is probably not what we want, since often these links contain additional information. |

I like the idea of flags a lot. In my mind, I wanted to do something about them and figured removing them was the only way, but a part of me didn't want to do that because having it in there... makes things complete somehow? I guess it just seemed better to have more links to something than less, but it would be nice to be notified that something isn't in stock / print before loading the whole page.

How would you like the OOP link to be displayed? Perhaps a different color, or " (OOP)" tacked on to the end of the link text?

Maybe a new section, "No longer available at", which would be more apt than listing them in the "Available at" section.

I'm not sure I want to add a new section for this. Maybe we could use

Appending " (OOP)" to the end of the link name or strikethrough both sound good to me. Strikethrough might be a little more intuitive.

Linethrough sounds best, for sure.

Strikethough works as a temporary solution.
I'm not sure what is going to happen with sites like Otaku and vgmworld listing here now too. Will they be added to the "Available at" section at some point? I just wouldn't want that one section to get cluttered. |

Like I posted in the other thread, they'll be added to a separate category.

Okay cool. I just wasn't sure since these two issue seem to be happening at the same time.

Ok, I didn't like the strike-through, so I went with gray link text and an (OOP) appended to the title:
http://vgmdb.net/album/22 Users can now mark an affiliate link as OOP by checking the OOP checkbox. |

That's a really cool idea. Now the question is: do I add links to shops we haven't added yet even if the soundtrack's not in print?

Sure, if the page still exists and provides useful information.
BTW, you don't have to add (OOP) to the titles. That's automatic. |

Gotcha! Just seems better to have them there than not somehow; I'd have hated to delete them. This is great.

I have a script that adds the shop links for CDJ, PA, and now YA. It already detects and filters out OOP links, so I should just modify it so that it submits them and marks them OOP.

Oh wow, that would be really cool! I think that way people won't have to manually search within a shop themselves if they're on an entry of something they'd like to buy and want to see if a specific shop carries it. I know some things are obviously OOP but it still doesn't hurt.

Added the checkbox to the link submitter, so it only takes one step now.
Also, the title is automatically figured out for CDJ, PA, YA and the Amazons, so that's another field you don't have to fill out. |

What about when a shop/sites disappears, should we delete the links or just OOP them?

I think you'd want to delete those links, unless there's a good reason to keep them. The same holds true if the unique page dissapears.

Is it just me or we can't delete links anymore? I accidentally added some links in incorrect entries and now I can't delete them.

Only staff and above can remove store links if I remember correctly. Make a post in the album thread if you need a change somewhere.
