I kinda wish I hadn't sold off this set...

The title really does fit the contents perfectly, a collection of many masterpieces of early Konami music.

Great classics to be enjoyed for many years.

Yeah, I was very excited to get mine. This was around the same time the Famicom Mini CDs were being released. After the Namco set, I was hoping that Konami would follow suit, but I guess it would have been seemingly redundant after this one. It would have been nice to have the NES versions of Life Force, Gradius 2, Contra, Super C, etc all on easy-to-find discs.

To recap, this box uses materials from these previous releases:

Mar'88 K30X-7702 = Music from Super Contra & A-JAX (This one has split tracks for A-Jax, unlike the 28XA-201(*) which was released ten days before it) [A-Jax; Super Contra] Motoaki Furukawa; Motoaki Furukawa & Kazuki Muraoka
Aug'88 K30X-7705 = Konami Game Music Collection Vol.1 [Haunted Castle] Kenichi Matsubara
May'89 140A-7704 = Ganbare Goemon 2 [Goemon 2] Michiru Yamane, Kouji Murata
May'89 276A-7703 = Thunder Cross [Thundercross; Hot Chase] Prophet Fukami, J_KANE; Kingoro
Jul'89 140A-7709 = Famicom Memorial 1 [Upa; Moero; GetsuFuma] Prophet Fukami; ?; Michael Maezawa
Jul'89 276A-7708 = Konami Game Music Collection Vol.0 [Hard Puncher]
Dec'89 220A-7723 = Senryobako 1. The third disc of this box, "Konami Game Sound History 1980-1985" is the source for all the brief, SE-embedded tracks of pre-1985 arcades that are used to open the Masterpiece discs.
Mar'90 KICA-1005 = Akumajo Dracula Famicom Best [Castlevania FDS/NES] Kinuyo Yamashita, Satoe Terashima
Apr'90 KICA-1007 = Famicom Memorial 2 [Twinbee 3]
Jul'90 KICA-1011 = Parodius da! Shinwa kara Owaraihe [Parodius Da!] Dokuo Umeno, Cameo Matano
Aug'90 KICA-1016 = Konami Game Music Collection Vol.2 [Quarth; Crime Fighters] Playback Hanzawa; IZUMI
Feb'91 KICA-1023 = Famicom Memorial 3 [Ai Senshi Nicol] Tonma-kun's Papa
May'91 KICA-7502 = Konami Game Music Collection Vol.3 [Escape Kids]
Dec'91 KICA-1055 = Senryobako 3 The third disc of this box, "KONAMI GAME SOUND HISTORY 1986~1987" is the source for the lone [Mr. Goemon] track
Mar'92 KICA-7601 = Salamander Again (of course Salamander music was published way before this, but this is the first "10 split tracks + 3 lifeforce split tracks" release I've found on the db) [Salamander; Lifeforce] MIKI-CHANG
Sep'92 KICA-7605 = Konami Game Music Collection Vol.5 [Hexion] Junya Nakano, Yuji Takenouchi, Satoko Miyawaki
Apr'02 KMCA-155 = Gradius Arcade Soundtrack (what I said for Salamander Again applies here too) [Gradius] Miki Higashino

(*)Nov'05 SCDC-00472 = Scitron reprint of 28XA-201, splits each BGM into a separate track. This was released one year later than the Masterpiece box, however it was supposed to be in print since 2001. Since this one has split [Contra] tracks, I used it as a reference. It seems Contra is one of the very few abriged soundtracks in the box (if you consider the fifteenth disc as a sort of bonus disc). [Contra] Kazuki Muraoka

** While checking this boxset, I discovered that the OST for Goemon 2 is indeed complete.
It has all the seven compiled tracks from the original 140A-7704 album.

The album note states:

Quote:
*note on track 9 of Vol.8, while listed in
the tracklist it is actually not present on the CD.
But that's incorrect. I suggest the following correction:

Disc 8 has a label error: track 6 "GM #2" doesn't exist. The soundtrack is complete with tracks 2-5 and 7-8.

Also, I tried to edit the tracklist by canceling tr.6 minute's length, but for some reason it doesn accept that and just copies the length of the following one, tr.7. Is it possible to have a blank track in the middle of the album?

Thanks for finding and correcting this mistake. I got rid of the extra track with an SQL query, since the only other way to do it would have been to delete it and resubmit.

Thanks for that. By the way, Disc 3 does indeed contain the three Lifeforce tracks. For some reason the tracklist stopped at track 10. I added them to the english one, but not to the Japanese one.

Seanne approved my composers field edits, but for some reason it's still "Konami Kukeiha Club" ...?
