I was just talking with someone earlier about how Takayuki Negishi hasn't done a whole lot of work over the past four years (seems like y'all noticed this earlier), so I figured I'd just ask: does anyone know if there's a specific reason he hasn't been up to much recently?

I am also curious why he wasn´t involved in anime scoring for such a long time.
Maybe new directors aren´t interested in "old school" composers and their sound. At least we get new Sakura anime soundtrack and this put him little more in spotlight and he will be scoring also other new anime series. I hope that someday we get release with F-Zero: Falcon Densetsu and rest of Vanguard BGM´s.

It's as you suspect. I recently asked another veteran anime composer (Hirano) about this and he said that unfortunately there's not many opportunities to write his style of music these days. The golden age of anime music is over.
