It looks like we can finally get a date from the scan that Carl uploaded. However, there's something I don't understand about it. The date January 10 is pretty clear, but the year is "5", which makes no sense. Is this some kind of alternative numbering (like year 5 of the X era)? Or does 5 actually mean 95, which would imply that this is some kind of re-release? I've always wondered if there were 2 releases for the famicom magazines, one enclosed in a magazine, and one without the magazine. This might lend evidence towards that.

That actually says Heisei 5, which is 1993.

Thanks, that clears it up. So we're in Heisei 20 now.

See this thread for general notes about what I'm trying to do with these albums: https://vgmdb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6420.
Game-by-game composer information is given on this album. Names double-checked with this site: http://homepage1.nifty.com/c-akimo/m...ag_l/mag06.htm (dead link now, sorry). 01~03: Final Fantasy V Listed composer: Nobuo Uematsu this is a pretty obscure one, you may not have heard of it 04~07: Ranma 1/2: Bakuretsu Rantouhen Listed composer: Toshio Okamoto composer in U.S. credits, music and SFX in Japan credits EDIT (2020-11-12): The tracks here aren't original game audio, but are arranged (or are the original versions before downconverting to SNES). 08~09: The Combatribes Listed composer: Kazunaka Yamane Arcade: "Music: K. Yamane" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG0tVG9SltA&t=25m14s. SNES: "Music: K. Yamane" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ1uogAMXWU&t=1m59s Both tunes originally from the arcade game. Note that BGM 1 is the stage 2 theme, and likewise BGM 2 is stage 3's. 10~12: Rushing Beat Run Listed composer: Atsuyoshi Isemura The U.S. version doesn't have credits, but the Japanese one does. "Music: Atsuyoshi Isemura, Hajime Uchida" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6BDsyFWE-Q&t=2m26s. The chief producer of Zuntata is named 内田哉 (Hajime Uchida), but I'm unsure if he's the same person. I don't believe he has any composition credits (he's rarely credited ever, mostly on albums in managerial roles). In any case, the album only credits Isemura. EDIT (2013-06-17): Name reading of Hajime Uchida confirmed by Super Ninja-Kun. Furthermore, the final game in the Rushing Beat series credits "hyu" with sound, and hyu is an alias of the Taito Hajime Uchida, so it does in fact appear that he started at Jaleco before going to Taito. Not super important for the entry because the only composer credited is Isemura, of course. 13~15: Battle Soccer Listed composers: Hiroshi Nishizawa, Yoko Watanabe Couldn't find credits, but both of these dudesters worked on other Banpresto games, the ONI series in particular. The "Back" scan seems to misspell Watanabe's given name as 洋子 (also readable as Yoko). 16~18: Kiki Kaikai Listed composer: Hiroyuki Iwatsuki "Music & Sound Effects: Hiroyuki Iwatsuki" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXvVSHwqvYw&t=56m11s. Technically "Kiki Kaikai" is the original arcade game, and this game is a sequel (Kiki Kaikai: Nazo no Kuro Mantle). 19~20: Sangokushi III Listed composer: Minoru Mukaiya honk honk 21~22: Assault Suits Valken Listed composer: Opus Studio Inc. ((株)オーパス) All music was done by Masanao Akahori: http://vgmdb.net/album/5285. The album specifically lists the company Opus (that's what the "(株)" means, shorthand for kabushiki gaisha). I have a hunch that "Opus"/"Opasu" was never truly an alias of Akahori, but was misinterpreted as one in cases like this where the company was credited for something he did. 23~24: Europe Sensen Listed composer: Yuji Ohno dem KOEI muzax 25~26: Benkei Gaiden: Suna no Shou Listed composer: Masashi Kageyama "Composition: Masashi Kageyama; Music: Hiroshi Tsukamoto, Akihiro Asada" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgjfQvfnHPQ&t=12m25s. The game doesn't specify what Tsukamoto and Asada did if it wasn't composition. Tsukamoto has a few generic sound credits, and Asada was a programmer (plain programming, nothing sound-related I could find). EDIT (2020-11-12): The tracks here aren't original game audio, but are arranged (or are the original versions before downconverting to SNES). 27~28: BattleTech Listed composer: Tsukasa Tawada "Music & Sound: Marshall Parker; Original Music Composer: Tsukasa Tawada" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcd5jLVnJTo&t=9m36s. The SNESmusic.org set for the game is missing the "BGM 1" track. Maybe the Japanese version had different music? That might explain Tawada's "original music" credit in the overseas credits. 29~31: Mickey no Magical Adventure Listed composer: Alfh Lyra "BGM and S.E.: Mari, Anie" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaPOtA3sgaU&t=9m14s. Tatsuya Nishimura (Anie) had mainly non-composition roles, so the BGM was probably mostly/all done by Mari Yamaguchi. 32~38: Elfaria Listed composer: Shigeaki Saegusa composer info waka waka The tracklist originally indicated that tracks 32 and 33 are arranged. This is not quite true: they're all arranged. They sound pretty close to the synth-upgraded versions on Elfaria Suite (not the fully arranged ones by Morioka, but the "original sound"), but they're definitely different. The arranger isn't credited in the scans we have. Last edited by CHz; Nov 12, 2020 at 02:38 AM. |

The Ranma 1/2, Benkei Gaiden and Elfaria tracks are all arranged. It again seems likely that they're actually the original versions from before they were downconverted to SFC sound.
Also there's a rather inconsequential typo of Minoru Mukaiya's name on the front disc insert where the reading of 向谷 is given as 向(む)谷(かい) when it should be 向(むかい)谷(や). Somehow the かい got moved to 谷 and knocked off the や. Last edited by Aifread; Nov 12, 2020 at 01:44 AM. |

Thanks again, CHz! These comp volumes are an aneurysm.
Small note: Track 17 has a typo: Disc Insert: BGM21 Page 20: BGM01 Page 21: BGM1 |
