Hmmm....what's this? Could it be the OSTs to the first three DS games (and thus finally releases of the updated 2 and 3)?

Really curious about this release. I'd love to have the updated DS soundtracks for 2 and 3. Here's to hoping that's what we'll actually get. XD

The product listing over at Sony Music Shop says the sound source for this album was the WiiWare releases, which were actually ports of the DS games.

So, this box is essentially a "remastered" reprint of these albums?

The later two are the GBA OSTs, which is of much worse quality.

added Nintendo Wii to the consoles represented since the soundtracks come from teh WiiWare versions of the game

A recent edit changed Beauty Hermitage to Très Bien in the English (non-localized) tracklist. Could you provide some comments on why you changed this? I don't know enough about the game to judge it.

The furigana doesn't appear in the tracklist, but the Japanese Wikipedia article for Phoenix Wright series characters indicates that 吐麗美庵 should be read "tres bien."

Like Chz says, I noticed while trying to translate the characters that the kanji's meaning didn't make much sense, especially with the context of the song. When I plugged "torebi" into my dictionary, the only thing that came out was torebian, IE "Très Bien".
I'm not sure about the accent. It's hard to tell if it was an accident or a purposeful misspelling. |

I know it doesn't say it on here, but didn't Akemi Kimura arrange all these tracks with the current instruments? At least for the DS versions? And, as far as I can tell, these tracks go off the DS instruments.
Edit: Or did someone else arrange these tracks? Last edited by Jedi QuestMaster; Jun 5, 2012 at 10:29 PM. |

Akemi Kimura (Naoto Tanaka) arranged Masakazu Sugimori's compositions for PW1 DS and his own compositions for PW2 DS, but Noriyuki Iwadare is the only one credited for music in both the GBA and DS versions of PW3 so he probably did those arrangements himself.

Are you sure? This is what throws me off, because in the first Ace Attorney, Akemi Kimura is credited the same way.

It's not quite the same way. Akemi Kimura is the only sound person credited at the end of case 5 in PW1, and it's for overall "sound." In PW3, he's specifically credited with "sound effects" only, and there's an explicit music credit earlier for Iwadare.
That said, in the case 4 credits of PW1, only Masakazu Sugimori is credited for music. It was only revealed on the PW1 DS soundtrack album that Akemi Kimura arranged the DS soundtrack. So no, I'm not 100% sure that Kimura didn't arrange PW3 too. But in the absence of any actual evidence, I'd trust in the game's credits for now that Kimura only did SFX. |

It's no argument that Akemi Kimura composed the Yomigaeru tracks. Fixed.

Any reason why track 4 reads "Questioning" while track 7 reads "Cross-Examination" ?

^^ it wasn't too consistent, I fixed that.
I tweaked some translations here and there too. All the pursuit themes are named differently! Though I left some untouched (ex 'The Fragrance of Black Coffee' would be 'Coffe is the Fragance of the Color of Dark(ness)' or such) Do note the difference in JP tracklists between "A~B" (A then B) and "A ~B" (A, B adds to it) Last edited by Dag; Jan 14, 2013 at 02:39 PM. |

Shouldn't track 29 of Disc 3 read "Investigation ~Middle 2004" ? The kanji matches up with that of track 27, Disc 2 which reads "Middle" :
捜査 ~中盤 2002 捜査 ~中盤 2004 |

Looks like there's nothing and no one here suggesting that the 3 discs here had zero remastering based on the "WiiWare" version.
I stuck each disc into my PC and Gracenote instantly detected the tracklist for the Yomigaeru Gyakuten OST (DS, 2005), 2 OST (GBA, 2004), and 3 OST (GBA, 2004) respectively. And listening to the discs ... I am not hearing any difference from the originals. Thoughts? |

They are 100% positively from the DS versions, not the GBA ones. Remember that Gracenote and FreeDB don't actually read the audio, they read the disc length and track numbers. Put a 'short CD (under 10 minutes) with one or two tracks and see how many different suggestions it gives.
I guess when Capcom made these they decided to keep the exact length of the tracks. Of course, disc 1 being the same is completely unsurprising, it's probably exactly the same. (On the note of this, I once came across a VERY strange coincidence of having two completely different discs out from the library, both the same length and four tracks and the FreeDB listed one as the other) And just for proof... Oh yes that's right, it's just length within track that leads to the Identification. Thanks for the heads-up. So it's the DS version, which in turn is what WiiWare was. Very good!

Officially localized tracklists came out for these via Steam. I've added them as "English (Official)". Should the other English tabs be removed?

Maybe the localization ones, but I'd still like to see the old tracklists saved even as forum post, especially if they're translated ones.

Does anyone who's bought those soundtracks know if they're actually noticeably remastered compared to the original songs? The descriptions on Steam say that all three have been "re-authored from the original, high quality source material", but that could just mean that they're the WiiWare/Sound Box versions instead of the DS or GBA ones.
