By the tracklist, it's a fine selection of some of his best compositions, though others could be added.

I was hoping for Tangency, and I'm ecstatic to see that it got included. It's a great list, but yeah there's so much good material they could've chosen. Hopefully this sells well so that they'll think about doing another arrangement album in the future.

Sakuraba drumming for a couple seconds

I think it'll be good. I would prefer Nakamura on the drums though.

Default SO & VP Arrangement Album - New or Old Music?

Might be too soon to answer this, but does the upcoming SO & VP Arrangement Album contain actual newly arranged music or just tracks from older Star Ocean arranged albums?

So this album does not contain actual newly arranged music then?
It is just tracks from older Star Ocean arranged albums?

If Sakuraba plays the drums it's all new since he started drumming only around 2007.

For Achieve and Confidence in the Domination are already released.
Every TGS Square-Enix makes a "future releases and demo songs" album which is given when you buy something in his store. 2014's TGS was Confidence in the Domination and 2015's TGS was For Achieve, both songs are already on youtube.

Seems like Track 10 (VP battle theme) has a slowest Drum Tempo since he can't make a tempo so fast with a real drum.

Track 11: KA.MI.KA.ZE (STAR OCEAN THE SECOND STORY)

This track was also already arranged as Track 12 in this album:

I've always considered it a simple best of
maybe 09 and 11 will come from that album, in order to forget that useless best plus (at least I hope)

Well, I kind of wanted to pre-order the SO & VP Arrangement Album, but only if they were newly arranged tracks.
But I guess it is too early to tell if the tracks are "new" or simply a "best of" compilation at this point.

Someone uploaded the 3 normal battle themes that were included on the 5th CD of the SO5 Ultimate Box.

未確認神闘シンドローム

This arrangement is similar to the '03 Live.

Stab The Sword Of Justice

I have to check the SO2 arrange album to see if there's similarities, but I really like this one.

Like Eriksharp mentioned, we got For Achieve, and the demo version of Confidence in the Domination in the last two TGS sampler albums from Square Enix. I'm really looking forward to the full album in June.

It would be nice if he was able to do a full live concert again for Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile, though he'd have to find a drummer. Yoshinori is the most recent one iirc, but I do like Nakamura.

BTW, what happened with the album link? Is not longer available in VGMDB?

So hearing a modern arrangement of "For Achieve" is pretty awesome, but it reminds me of something that bothers me about every non-SFC version: one of the melodies is basically gone. The SFC version had a trumpet playing an accompanying melody line for the first part of the song. It was actually pretty loud, and a central part of the original version (and sounded great IMO.) The PSP version of this song and now this one nearly muted those notes. It's especially bad in this band version because I almost couldn't hear it at all, but it's there, waaaay in the background. Interesting to hear this song evolve in this way.

I agree but I think the SFC trumpet is more of a byproduct of how it was programmed/sequenced rather than Sakuraba's choice.

You can check the original arrange album (track 04), the loudness balance is different overall.

Indeed, the late SFC soundtracks all have the most touch ups by Hatsushiba (more apparent with pieces in Tales of Phantasia, especially Tamura's, which aside different instrumentation and pitches actually have added melody lines that disappeared without any trace later). In the case of Star Ocean SFC one part that made mixing harder to compare than usual is the heavy use of surround through brute channel inversion.

Sakuraba's comment:
"This Arrange album is about Arranged Battle themes so I have excluded all orchestral-style music.
Formed as an Instorock Band*, I have excluded every Computer sound that's why I have recorded and played live Drum, Bass, Guitar, Organ and Piano.
Because I wanted to work with time, in my pace... I did some recording at my house. I can't play Bass and Guitar so I asked to professional to play it.
I have played myself Live Piano, Harmond Organ and Live Drum and I have recorded and played with my own hands some Synth and Sampler phrases too. In just 1 place I wanted to put an accurate and fast Arpeggio so I used an Arpeggiator of an Analog Synth.

In this era I think the people will say, so why?
The sound quality of Sampled sounds has improved a lot and people will not tell the difference. But with this Album I want the people to feel Rock's wild and the heat of live playing.
The music I created time ago wasn't made with live playing in mind, and live playing was hard. Specially the Drum was very hard. I'm not a drumer, I have learned how to play it by myself, and my muscles and legs campred, it was hard.

There are times where there are high-speed kick drum but I can't do it by myself so I have edited to keep it. Even if it is edited I think it is better than the programmed beat (midi).
The hard part of the organ was "Tangency", of course time ago was programmed (midi) and there were some phrases where I ignored playing with the hands, thanks to a lot of practice the record was as I wished.

"The true nature of all" too, I have practiced a lot the harpsichord and synth phrases and the record was as I whised.

I have played a lot of times "Mikakunin Jintou Syndrome", "Confidence in Domination", "The Incarnation of Evil" on live so there wasn't problems with the keyboard, the very hard part was the drum.

Basically I made a good tempo, wild arranged but "Never Surrender" is a balad-style arrange. Even if it is a Balad it has an irregular musical time.
"Dynamite" is different from the original version, this time I put an oppressive feel. I set and Octaver to the Bass, and it has less than 1 octave.
"KA.MI.KA.ZE" too has changed compared to the original, I set a Middle Tempo.
"Mighty Blow + Shiver", originally it was a different song, when I played both, were very similar. When joined both it has a good feel.
The rythm of the middle was a bit hard.
I tried to don't break the original feel of "Stab the Sword of Justice", "For Achieve" and "An illusion of the Brainstem".

Every song was hard and Volume is big, I hope you enjoy the it."

*Instorock Band is a Rock band without vocals.
