(I posted this in the Discord channel too)
I ran into something kind of strange. Since I couldn't find it in the database, I created this entry for the FM-Towns version of Sangokushi III. But when I was creating the entry, after typing in the catalog number HMD-131, the following message displayed on the screen: "WARNING The following albums have similar catalog numbers: Romance of the Three Kingdoms III HMD-131". But I can't find that album in the database anywhere. Any ideas? For now, I just added this album without the catalog number. If it ends up being a duplicate entry, please delete it. But the fact that the entry for it that is supposedly already in the database is unsearchable is a problem that I think needs to be addressed. |

Is this not a Red Book audio CD ?
EDIT: found the old entry which cause conflict: https://vgmdb.net/album/22092 It was discussed before and it is a red book, which we don't accept on the database. Last edited by Myrkul; Feb 18, 2020 at 05:09 AM. |

Here's a link to an auction with all the contents: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp...iMsajcZdxG4tjk Is something like this not eligible for the database? |

We are not accepting Red Book Audio CDs, most (if not all) FM-Town games use Red Book music tracks.

I'll keep it in mind in the future. Go ahead and delete the entry. Thanks! |

I think the confusion here was because Chris found the music CD on its own and it wasn't clear that it was part of a game and had a track listing like a game soundtrack would. My understanding is that FM-Towns games were on floppies but the audio was a CD you'd put in a separate drive.

Okay, so my copy of this just came in. Other than the first track, which is a data track, it contains 20 normal audio files. iTunes recognized it and imported it normally. Should this one count as a normal soundtrack entry and be eligible to remain in the database? If so, I'll update the scans and add the track list.

not sure if I'm wrong but I think redbook audio cds don't have "normal" tracklists (if I understood well that wiki article)
so, as that cd seems to have one, I think it's not red book audio cd red book audio cds have the compact disc logo btw? |

Not sure about iTunes*, but any game disc with Red Book audio will behave like a standard audio CD when put in a standard player. They'll all have that data track at the beginning followed by normal audio files. What matters is its purpose, and this is like any other FM-Towns game with CD music where the game itself is on a floppy and the in-game music is played from a CD. It's part of the game, not an independent soundtrack release. This has all been discussed before.
*Maybe iTunes has an easier time with FM-Towns discs because they contain audio and nothing else. I've had issues in the past getting iTunes to recognize PCE game discs even though they play fine from the disc and other music programs don't have the same issue ripping them. they don't use MIDI files or close on floppies?
edit: because there are sfc,etc releases with soundware cd, so I don't think the soundware stuff is meant for being played along with game Last edited by Phonograph; Feb 21, 2020 at 06:22 PM. |

For now, I've added some more photos of the disc and booklet so the mods can make a better assessment. If it's truly not fit for the database, go ahead and delete the entry. I just want to make sure it's been properly evaluated.

Some did, but some used a combination of MIDI with CD audio. It's similar to some PC games where you'd install the game to your hard drive from the CD-ROM but still keep the disc in to play the high-quality audio.

Okay, interesting development. I just gave it a listen and the tracks on this disc are exactly the same recordings as these albums:

Just to clarify, the data track on the CD is the game?

It appears so. When I open the disc with Window Explorer there are about 53 files, most of them .DAT and .CIM. And there's an EXE file called RUN386.

The data track isn't the full game. A good chunk of that would be on the floppy. It's probably mostly data that communicates with the game and tells the CD which track to play where.
