I've been working on an attempted translation for disc 6,7,8,9, and 12 (all the other discs have tracklists that have already been translated to English in other albums listed on this site.)
I have zero experience with the Chinese and Japanese languages. I am cross referencing several sources and online tools to come up with titles that sound good and plausible based on the meaning of the words, but I could be getting into trouble with cultural/game-specific references and proper names. For names of places, people, and events, I don't consider any translation or Romanization official until I can find the exact same Chinese characters cited in an English Wikipedia article (or something equivalent) that relates to the three kingdoms novel, games, or historical period. When I do find such a cross-reference, I insert a link to it. If anyone familiar with these languages and/or the story of these games has suggested improvements, please share === DISC 6 ===
NOTES: Track 08: 大河悠々 大河 = "large river" [jisho.org] 悠々 = "calm." [jisho.org] https://vgmdb.net/album/39940 (chinese release of the ost), calls this track 洞庭湖畔, which translates to "Dongting Lakeside." Dongting Lake is a well-referenced landmark in China, which raises the question, is this track supposed to refer to a river or a lake? Track 16: 覇城攻略 攻略 = strategy, strategic capture, take by storm [Jisho.org] 城 = castle [Jisho.org] 覇 =the name of a prefecture in the Han dynasty. Google Japanese>English translates 覇 to "Hajo," or "Hakuryo" but this can't be right, as those are Japanese names. According to Google translate. in Chinese 覇 is pronounced "Ba" and means "overlord/dominate." Since the meaning of 覇 in unclear, "storming the castle" seems sufficient for now Track 17: 烈火雷風 This is a literal translation, not sure if it could also be the name of a character (雷風 "Lei Feng" means raging fire, but it's also the name of a guy in Tekken, so IDK) === DISC 7 ===
NOTES: Track 13: 温侯, this one is a really wild guess 温 = Surname Wen [mdbg.net] 侯 = Surname Hou [mdbg.net] So it could be translated as Wenhou, perhaps a reference to Li Wenhou. Wikipedia writes his name as 文侯 instead of 温侯, but according to this 文 and 温 mean basically the same thing. 侯 also means "Marquis" [mdbg.net], so it could be translated as "Marquis Wen," which was another name for this guy https://dynasty-warriors-fanon.fando...iki/Zhang_Zhao (also spelled as "文侯"). So it's pretty much a toss-up between "Wenhou" and "Marquis Wen" without having more knowledge of the game. Track 14: 野戦・新星 "Nova" is the only translation I could find for 新星. It doesn't sound right in English, too science-sounding for a story set in ancient China. 新 = new and 星 = star, so that's what I'm calling this track. Track 18:金城湯池 "金城湯池 = an impregnable fortress; an unassailable territory" (jisho.org). "unassailable" and "impregnable" are the exact opposite. I'm guessing that jisho.org really meant to say "unimpregnable." Track 24: 折戟 Taking some poetic license here. 折 = opportunity 戟 = a type of Chinese spear/halberd [jisho.org]. === DISC 8 ===
NOTES: Track 09, 10, and 11: Some guesswork here. "Ranking" could have been "evaluation," or "grade." "military" could have also been "soldiers," "army," or "forces." === DISC 9 ==
NOTES: Tracks 02 and 03 are basically random guesses for me Track 02: [from jisho.org] 初期設定 Noun 1. default settings; initial settings; initial configuration Noun, Suru verb 2. initialization; initialisation Track 03: [from google translate japanese > english] シナリオオープニング Shinarioōpuningu (scenario opening) === DISC 12 ===
NOTES: Track 02: 萌芽 萌芽 = "sprout, germination, bud" [jisho.org.]. https://vgmdb.net/album/7684translates 萌芽 as "prologue." I chose to call it "beginnings" because I feel like that term applies to both sprouts and prologues. Track 07: 群雄 群雄 = rival chiefs, a rivalry of warlords (jisho.org) 群雄 = heroes, warlords vying for supremacy (mdbg.net/) Tracks 11 & 19: 吳越 (Wu Yue, or Wuyue). "吳越" appears in a wikipedia entry about the Wuyue kingdom, which existed in the ten kingdoms period. My best guess is that the story of Sangokushi 12 covers more than just the three kingdoms period. We know this track is referring to the wuyue kingdom and not the wuyue mountains, which use a different set of characters (五嶽). Track 28: 風雲急を告げる [from Jisho.org] 風雲急を告げる Expressions (phrases, clauses, etc.), Ichidan verb 1. to have grown tense (of a situation); to have become critical (and to be on the verge of a major upheaval) Track 29: 泡沫人 this was another guess... 泡沫 = ephemeral, transient [Jisho.org] 人 = person, man, people, someone [Jisho.org] Last edited by garbage; Aug 16, 2021 at 05:31 AM. |

Disc 1 seems to just be the Sangokushi side of Nobunaga no Yabou: Zenkokuban / Sangokushi in the same fashion that the first 5 tracks of that same release are also the ones present on NOBUNAGA's ambition 30th Anniversary CD-BOX. I wouldn't be surrpised if the rest of this compilation has a bunch of other arrange albums in there instead of soundtracks, like it is for the Nobunaga collection.
EDIT: Yeah, same thing for Sangokushi III being Disc 3 on this release. I've applied the necessary edit for disc 1 & 3, but not the rest since i couldn't get ahold of the other original releases. I barely know anything about the series, so if anyone knows their stuff it'd be appreciated. Last edited by Robin; Oct 27, 2022 at 01:48 AM. |
