I just got this in the mail (along with the rest of the collector's edition). Should the release date be changed to today?

So who took the lead on this score?

And why do Acree and Velsaco participate on every Blizzard project now?

Acree has been on every Blizzard project for a long time. This isn't a new development.

Derek Duke is the music director here. OST is on iTunes as well, track by track credits also there.

I agree it's nothing unusual for Acree to be doing Blizzard projects by now.

OK--I get it. He's been on since WoW. But that's also when Blizzard started outsourcing larger parts of their scores--particularly in-game music. Before it had just been cinematic music (very small percentage of the overall soundtrack) and Warcraft 1.

I'll be honest, I just don't like the direction Blizzard has gone in in general. That statement extends to the music department. Prior to WoW, you had Stafford/Duke/Uelmen and a newly-hired Bush. They all did both music and sound design.

Fast forward to WoW, and Blizzard kept its older folks doing music and sound design. With the increasing demands of music quantity, Blizzard began more outsourcing music (instead of hiring more sound designers). I feel that the Blizzard "sound" has eroded almost completely, and part of that is because no freelancer yet (excluding former Blizz employees) has fit into that sound. The Acree/Velsaco combo is all about the bombastic faux-orchestral filmy stuff.
