Disney's Music Trivia:

• Frank Churchill was assigned to Alice in Wonderland in 1939, and his music was used to accompany a presentation reel featuring artwork by David Hall. None of Churchill's music appears in the 1951 film

• Mack David, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston, who had written songs for Cinderella, were invited to work on Alice. However, only one song by the trio, "The Unbirthday Song", written in 1948, made its way into the movie

• Ken Darby made an arrangement sketch of "The Unbirthday Song" in 1948 and would have been assigned to Alice in Wonderland, however he left Disney for Twentieth Century Fox

• Alice in Wonderland is notable as the Disney film that features the most songs, although many of them last for only a few measures. Some of them utilize poetry from Carroll's original books, while others feature newly composed lyrics

• The score for this seventy-five minute film comprises some 141 musical sequences

• One of the most unusual feature of the soundtrack is that music reflects some of the film's surreal aspects, for example "Curiosity Leads to Trouble". The sequence features slow chromatic glissandi on the high strings
of a piano, as well as a middle-range piano string being struck by a mallet, which is used to portray the chiming of a clock. The metallic sound of the scene is enhanced by the use of vibraphone with pronounced tremolo

• Kathryn Beaumont had difficulty singing "Beyond the Laughing Sky", and it was decided that starting the film off with a slow ballad would be a little risky on audiences, also, with its similarities to
The Wizard of Oz's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". The newly written song, "In a World of My Own", was easier for Beaumont to sing.

• Several unused songs were written for the film in early stages of developement. Next to the "Lobster Quadrille" tune, Churchill wrote "Alice and the Bottle", a duet featuring lyrics by Disney story man Ted Osborne
Churchill also planned at least two songs that utilize Lewis Carroll's poetry as lyrics: "Pepper Lullaby" by the Duchess, and "Mock Turtle Soup Song" by the Mock Turtle, two characters, which were originally planned for the film, but not used.
Don Rayne and Gene de Paul also attempted an adaption of the poem in their song "Beautiful Soup", written in July 1947. The duo also wrote an alternate, jazzier arrangement of Carroll's "Jabberwocky" poem, titled
"Beware the Jabberwock", which was not used in the film.
Sammy Fain and Bob Hilliard wrote at least two unused songs for the film, "Beyond a Laughing Sky", which was replaced by "In a World of My Own", and "I'm Odd", a signature song for the Ceshire Cat
The trio of Mack David, Al Hoffman, and Jerry Livingston wrote at least two unused songs for Alice. "Curiosity", penned in 1948, would have been sung by Alice, while "Dream Caravan" from the same year, would have featured the Caterpillar singing "Zoom Gollee, Gollee"

• The unused songs "Lobster Quadrille" by Churchill and "Beyond a Laughing Sky" by Fain/Hilliard appear in the next animated feature, Peter Pan. While the melody of "Lobster Quadrille" was reused as the tune for
"Never Smile at a Crocodile", "Beyond the Laughing Sky" ultimately became the film's title theme in form of "The Second Star to the Right" with alternate lyrics
