Tchaikovsky credit added for the dance music, which is from Swan Lake.

Which track it is? (isn't the 33th track also Beethoven, btw?)

Oh, yeah, Fur Elise. I didn't even think about that. It's track 39.

So there's no track by track arranger breakdowns?

I hadn't heard this in years. I didn't remember it was quite this bad. Sekito and Kawamori ruined a good soundtrack. I just wonder how they could do it quite this thoroughly. *Shakes head in amazement*

In the interview on the DVD, Kawamori talks about doing the arrangement for Elia, and Sekito about the final battle theme, but as far as I could tell (maybe I just don't remember), that was it.

Oh god, FFIV DS synth is absolutely TERRIBLE. Brass sounds the worse, if I recall correctly.

A perfect example of the horrible synth quality... *shrug* |

I was totally dissapointed with the FFIII-soundtrack, too. I remember the time when I just bought the soundtrack for the NES-version and then the remake was announced and I thought "damn I should have waited - they'll probably make a kickass remake-soundtrack!" - but that was probably too much to ask for... either way I'm very happy with the NES-OSV.
As for FFIV... well I prefer the SNES-version as well, but I think they did a much better job there than on FFIII - possible because the SNES already had some pretty good sound and samples and so they had a reference unlike FFIII - one problem I ahd with this was not only the synth quality but also the choice of instruments in way too many tracks. Besides that the FFIV-soundtrack for the remake is superior to the release for the SNES-one anyway, beeing two discs and giving all the tracks a more appropiate playtime. Just my thoughts about that. |

The strings and percussion sound lifeless, too. Just listen to those cymbals. It just sounds like a downgraded version of the original.

I ask to the people who hated Sekito's music for FFIII - what do you think of his work on FFII/Origins? I thought it was absolutely excellent (and so much better than Uematsu's own arrangements for FFI/Origins).

It was mediocre. His arrangements of most of the tracks were functional (the world map, the town theme), but he ruined some of them with his poor taste (Pandemonium Castle, Battle Scene 2). I don't think all that highly of Uematsu's arrangements for the PSX/WSC FFI either, but they didn't suffer from the problems of Sekito's.

I remember I only listened to the Origins soundtracks once and then realized how much more I preferred the original NES versions. In theory, they should have been cool, but fell kind of flat.

Hmm, Uematsu's arrangements of FFI are excellent, with a beautiful acoustic feel, like "Cornelia's Castle" and "Town" (nice guitar!). I also like the light approach to dungeons tracks like "Chaos' Temple" and "Underwater Temple", which is quite unexpected but works really well.
Sekito's arrangements sound a lot like his music from Musashi, so it's a bit... weird. His arrangements on FFIII are functional but the original music deserved better. "Eternal Wind" is, I think, Uematsu's masterpiece from the 8-bit era and the DS version really doesn't convey the same dreamy feel. I hate 8-bit music but with "Eternal Wind" the original is still unsurpassed. |

So I'm in the minority, it seems. Indeed, I don't like much FFIIIDS score (and it's a bless that the PSP release lets you switch to the original audio), but I really liked his FFII...

Someone seems to have removed the Beethoven and Tchaikovsky credits in the text if they were ever actually there.
Also, 'Piano Practice 2' is The Flea Waltz https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Flea_Waltz |

I liked the Playstation Final Fantasy 2 music a lot, although that had the additional boss themes that the original lacked. I only just started on 3 and have not compared them. In the DS version, at least, some of those tracks definitely seem like they should be expanded or swapped around some more. That "victorious" tune that plays in EVERY town after you do it a favor needs more work if it is going to be heard that often. Maybe for casual listening it works better. I definitely presumed it was a different group of people on the music.
ehhhdit Now I have heard both and thought about it. I think the DS music is just fine; I like a number of tracks better than the NES versions, especially the more melancholy sounding ones, which the nes sound programmer never seemed to know what to do with. The DS game itself just put me in an underwhelmed and frustrated state. Last edited by Garnobium; Jan 9, 2015 at 02:06 PM. |

This soundtrack has so many orchestral/symphonic arrangements... A LOT. I felt like they totally ruined the track ''Battle 2''. Sekito's works from FFII were better than this.
Man, it's even worse than 7th Dragon' score... Last edited by Vargas123; Dec 7, 2015 at 06:48 PM. |

Is there a source for Yasuhiro Yamanaka having arranged track 60? According to the "Preludes since 1987" compilation back cover, 山中康央 arranged the Prelude (track 2), rather than 関戸 剛 / 河盛慶次 who we assume arranged the entire soundtrack.

Wow. Never would have guessed we'd get track-by-track arranger credits here.

Apparently in the interview on this DVD, Yamanaka specifically talks about 最後の死闘 (track 56, which is the only track that the NexTone data credits to both Sekito and Yamanaka).
