Any clarification on these track credits? :

Koji Kondo (1-16, 1-31)
Kenta Nagata (1-38, 2-59)

Is that Disk 1, Track 16, or Track 1 through 16 on Disc 1, etc.

It's the former. Disc 1, Tracks 16, 31 and 38, and Disc 2, Track 59.

The credits are taken from these two releases.

I would really like to know who did what on the soundtrack beyond that though. Shame.

Thanks for clearing that up. Yeah, it'd be nice to be able to find out more about the composition.

Haha, the appendix A block is supposed to post it here in this thread, but I just tested it out and it doesn't work. I'll have to see what's up with it.

There's a source here that has Kenta Nagata written as the composer for "The Great Sea" from the First Symphonic Game Music Concert.

Cool, thanks for the info. I would love to believe that Kondo wrote the tune.

It's definitely Kenta Nagata. However, Nintendo made requests that Koji Kondo was credited instead for the booklet. My guess is that philosophy is why Nintendo never released track-by-track credits. Still, I know who composed what for most tunes based on interviews, other albums, and their respective styles.

Yes, please.

Any news on this front would be very exciting indeed.

I'd also be very interested in that, even if it is speculative. I've done it myself (with Star Fox 64 and Kirby 64 before I knew about the proper credits -- my speculations turned out 95% correct or so!)

If you have any similar information for Twilight Princess that'd also be cool. I gather Kondo only did a handful of tracks for that too.

I'm not able to listen to the score right now, but this is what I can remember. Hope it helps somewhat even if not exactly able to give complete track-by-track credits:

- Kenta Nagata was responsible for defining the nautical sound of the game. Pieces such as The Great Sea, Dragon Roost Island, Outset Island, and the title theme. He also did the main character themes, such as for Aryll.
- Hajime Wakai had a major role too. As the interview Prime Blue linked to, he handled the battle themes. His cutesy Pikmin-esque fingerprints are all over quite a few themes too such as those for Forest Haven. I believe he shared dungeon music duties too.
- Koji Kondo's role was very small. The only piece I know he did is Grandma based on the Nintendo Sound Selection credits. However, I think he may have done a couple more melodies and maybe even "Farewell, Hyrule King".
- Toru Minegishi's role is mysterious, but his major interview here emphasises how he learned to synchronize music with character animation. I'd therefore guess he did most of the event themes, which is consistent with his orchestral style.

I'm still not sure about a few things. For example, who was responsible for arranging the Zelda reprises (Nagata probably but I hear some Minegishi too) and what about those really eccentric minimalist themes (I'd guess Wakai but possibly Minegishi again). Does anyone have any further ideas?

I was wondering if someone familiar with the game could take a look at the recent tracklist edits as submitted by Nisto. Is this some kind of English localization from the sound test?

It looks to me they just use the US version names again, and some minor, less accurate style changes. I believe there wasn't a sound test but now it matches older translations.

Maybe we should undo the edits and add alternate tracklists with Japanese and English names to avoid editting wars...

He replaced our tracklist translation with the one from Chudah's Corner. There's no sound test in the game, as far as I know. I can't speak about the accuracy of one over the other (although it looks like the new one is less literal than the old one, probably in a good way), but the new one definitely uses localized place and character names: "Helmaroc King" instead of the Japanese "Zeeklock" or however it is you'd romanize ジークロック, etc.

(Apparently, the island you start off in the game is named プロロ in the Japanese version, but they renamed it to Outset Island in the NA version. プロロ = short for プロローグ = prologue = outset. I like that.)

So do you recommend rejecting the new edits and keeping your edits? Maybe we could use a second tracklist with localizations.

Where did the accuraterip database get them? It doesn't sound like their focus is necessarily on tracklist translation.

Probably by RPGFan. It lists the same tracklist:

http://www.rpgfan.com/soundtracks/zelda-wind/index.html

while this site has the same tracklist as well:
http://www.soundtrackcentral.com/cds...ldatww_ost.htm

Now go ahead and search for "Rendezvous" over at wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Leg...The_Wind_Waker
And you'll find this tracklist again.

But also, some of the tracks that had "Aril" in it was probably wrong too. Go to wikiled.com and choose from: Auto, and to: English, and put in this in the text box:
アリル誘拐
(This is track 15 of disc 1, listed as: 15. アリル誘拐 (Ariru Yūkai) Aryll's Kidnapping) on wikipedia.

And you'll get "Kidnapping allyl". Asian people often misspronounce the letter r as an l, so I assume "Arryl" is correct...
This leads me to believe that the tracklist I have submitted is correct.

Sounds like the best thing to do would be to have a tab for the original Japanese, a literal translation, and a localized translation. Accuraterip version could maybe be the basis for the localized translation but it seems pretty junky, and should be touched up a bit.

Accuraterip Database is about DiscID's and CRC's. I never heard that the Accuraterip Database started a freedb service and if they had started the service I would eventually find on its website which I did not.

He likely got the info from freedb or others freedb's but that does not mean he is wrong. He may be right, there are many good translations submitted by users to freedb's.

Am I crazy or is the Jalhalla theme slightly different on the OST? The part at 0:44 has a glockenspiel doing an ascending scale, while the actual game has the marimba doing a descending scale. I noticed this because when it goes back to the loop, the marimba part is now a glockenspiel.

Well, after many interviews, sending e-mails and actually meeting up with someone while I headed off to tokyo for a holiday, I've actually got a pretty accurate tracklist stating who composed what.
