Power Drift - Like a Wind by Hiroshi Kawaguchi
Battle Racers - Hero Course by Katsuhiro Hayashi

I heard the latter first; when I heard the former I immediately guessed that the latter was inspired by the former. It's mostly the first part of the former that is similar to the latter.

Interestingly, Hayashi played keyboards with Kawaguchi in the SST Band version of the former track.

I wonder if anyone else noticed this on here but Hirofumi Matsuoka heavily took from the intro of Zard's Unmei no Ruureeto Mawashite in the intro of his own ending song from Kaze no Tansakusya ~ Grand Slam ~.

Not game, but anime. The YKDB is sort of losing activity, and the massive "Based on" thread hasn't been replied to in more than a year, so I figured I'd add this here. Nothing's outright borrowed here, but the style of the second half of "Europe" from GITS:SAC OST 3 is almost certainly influenced by this brilliant gem from 1975:

The fast jazz drums, the acoustic bass, the guitar chords, the saxophone... yeah.

Recently listened to the Hang-On soundtrack again and immediately thought of Big in Japan by Alphaville. Turned out they are using the same harmonies. Melody's got some similarities in my feeling too, so I guess it was quite an inspiration for Mr. Kawaguchi

Am I the only one who finds the chord progression of the strings similar in these two?

Eternal Arcadia (Skies of Arcadia) - "Battle 1" (0:45)
The 3rd Birthday - "Triumph of Wing" (0:11)

Well known but just a reminder.
Not exact similarities but clear inspiration (like other jazz fusion bands like Casiopea, Prism, etc).

T-SQUARE (Travelers) ~ Guile

The opening synth lead in "Bahama" from Cyber Cycles kinda has me thinking of the ending theme from Sonic & Knuckles.

I swear, T-SQUARE's Wind Song has me thinking of a Castlevania track. I couldn't place it though.. Perhaps someone knows what I may be thinking of?

Within the first few seconds, it immediately reminded me of "Ghost Ship Painting" from Akumajou Dracula X (PCE) and ADXX (SFC).

That's interesting. My instincts were on IV or X/XX too, but after listening to that track I wasn't so sure anymore. I guess it just wasn't as similar as I remembered. But clearly I'm not alone hearing a similarity at least.

Double Dragon 2 Arcade - Stage 3 Boss I have often thought sounded quite like Rainbow - Man on the Silver Mountain

Dragon Quest fans will know this one. I wonder how often Sugiyama recycles his own material? Still beautiful.

Here's an interesting one.

Final Fight Restroom theme sounds surprisingly like Double Dragon 1 NES Mission 4. I realized this after looking back at an old NES cover of the FF theme i tried making a long time ago.

Seems this melody/track is pretty popular among Japanese composers or something. :P

Well yeah, those two are the same link....so of course they'll sound 100% the same

Anyways, this one has been brought up a lot across various places:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgUi_kj8Syw

The composer claims it was coincidendal, however.

Double Dragon Stage 2 and Birdie's SF1 Theme (more evident here) both sound quite similar to Michael Jackson's Bad

Here is an interesting one I have come across. I know nothing of this game, but I like this song in particular. Though personally I prefer this version. But I wondered if it is possible it inspired the hideout theme from Double Dragon. It seems even more apparent listening to this version of the song.

The style and atonality of "The Backstroke" by Rei Harakami just has me thinking of Kota Hoshino's music a lot, but I think specifically the Evergrace soundtrack.

Ok, so i went and listened to Bonnie Tyler's I Need a Hero and I realized it sounded like a few songs. To sum it up, it seems like Sega in the 80s was a fan of this song.

The first one is the theme song to Space Harrier due to it kind of having the feel, but the beat definitely has a lot to do with it. I may be hearing things but the theme to Hang-On kind of gives off that feel. It isn't as distinct as Space Harrier with its beat, but the melody and overall key is certainly there.

Another one is the third BGM in E-Swat arcade. This may only be me, but when the song takes off, it really sounds similar to me.

Robotrek Staff Roll

Hourai Gakuen no Bouken Staff Roll

I've heard this rhythmic figure used in other Japanese-themed media, too. Is must be derived from a popular TV show or event or something?

I've heard this

Here is an interesting one. It didn't instantly jump out at me, and it is one I covered before, but i realized this while humming it one day.

Is it possible that Zangief's Theme (CPS1) may have been inspired by Michael Jackson's Bad? It mostly seems apparent in the intro, but there are little bits throughout the song that raise an eyebrow.

Also, this may just be me and an extreme stretch, but to me the women's team from KoF 2003 sounds oddly reminiscent of Fire Man's Stage. It just stood out to me, personally, but my ears are probably strange and thus I hear it.

Old and probably well-documented, but search didn't turn it up in this thread:

"Ending Theme" from F-Zero was obviously influenced by "Things Can Only Get Better" by Howard Jones.
