Definitely hoping for some new H. and/or SOUND!SHOCK arrangements on this one. I love the sound upgrade of "Wilderness (ROUND1)" on SEGAAGES. |

Hmm, does anybody know who composed Golden Axe The Revenge of Death Adder? That's the only game on this set I can't find any composer info on. And while we're on the subject, who the heck are Y.T., Dolphin, Nankyoku, Decky, Imocky, and K. Nagai anyway? Here's hoping this release tells us who did what and what everybody's real name is!

Alright guys, this is pretty insane if you're a Golden Axe fan. I just got this in the mail today from VGM World and guess what? The booklet lists the composers for each game!
I updated the album's page accordingly. -Mike |

Nakabayashi did the original Golden Axe? Wow. Respect++
That's another awesome thing about these classic Sega compilations: they have full credits. It's great finding out who composed longstanding mystery soundtracks and that people like Naoki Kodaka and Norio Hanzawa handled After Burner music. |

Who are the original composers of the first Golden Axe for Genesis/Mega Drive?
They are not list on album page. |

I can't read japanese, so I'm sure this is going to sound dumb to a lot of you, but where exactly does it list the game-by-game composer breakdown? I looked through the scans and I'm not seeing it.

Bottom of each of the comment pages. Artist name in big kanji, then the game name(s) underneath it, in Japanese brackets (「 」).

Hey, so I just realized that this is not strictly true. The booklet lists the games worked on by each commentator. Kind of a pedantic difference, but it means that making a game-composer breakdown based on that could be incomplete. If any of those games had a co-composer who has not interviewed for the booklet, they'd be left out.
This is not as farfetched as it may sound: Motohiro Kawashima didn't contribute to the liner notes of the Shinobi collection. If we only went by the booklet and didn't have the game credits, he would've gone uncredited for The GG Shinobi II. And a few extra things while I'm here and looking at the booklet: My deduction that Tohru Nakabayashi is "Dolphin" was based on two things:
Naofumi Hataya talks about GA3's sound team and mentions four people: (Tatsuyuki) Maeda, 小黒 (I don't know any Sega sound guy named Oguro), (Tomonori) Sawada, and himself. If all four of those are the sound guys, then that's great because the game also lists four people for "music and sound effect": N.H, Ryunosuke, Lotty, and T.S. (If they're the same: N.H = Hataya; T.S surely Sawada and not Maeda as incorrectly spread by kyubi, seriously why did Maeda have to be T.S and not one of the other two, you and your damn assumptions) Tomoyuki Kawamura mentions Wing War, so if he did in fact work on it, he may be the "MUU" on this soundtrack: http://vgmdb.net/album/4334. That'd be nice, because the name of his (freelance?) studio is Studio MUU2. |

Found out who this "Lotty" guy is... or should I say gal.
That's right, Lotty is a female composer named Haruyo Oguro (小黒 晴代). I messaged Masaru Setsumaru on Twitter and he told me. |

Excellent!
Did Setsumaru confirm the reading as Haruyo? Just double-checking because it doesn't seem like your full conversation was public. |

Yea, he sent me a direct message with that. If you want I can post that.
And confirm the reading? He gave me the Japanese, if that's what you're wondering. |

By reading, I meant how the Japanese name is pronounced. Did he give you the Japanese name and tell you it was Haruyo Oguro, or did he only give you the name in Japanese and you punched it into a dictionary?

"Lotty's name is "Haruyo Oguro". In Japanese, 小黒 晴代." Is what he said.
I would not have included the Japanese if he didn't tell me that as well. |

Cool beans. All I wanted to check was if he only gave you the Japanese name and you were guessing how it was pronounced, since there's pretty much no information on this woman anywhere. Big hugs for everyone. <3

Great finding, can you ask to Masaru who is Dolphin since he worked for Sega? or if he know someone who have contacts with Nakabayashi?

Woohoo! ;D
And I sure will, but I don't want to bombard him with questions just about everyday. When I get it I'll post it back here. |

But I wonder why Sawada doesn't list his Genesis work on the archived Wave Master site? S3&K, Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, and Golden Axe III aren't listed.

That's a good question, and one I don't really have an answer for. The profiles just weren't comprehensive.
Another example: Seirou Okamoto's omitted all of his composition work, focusing solely on sound effects. (It seems that was his main role at Sega, so it kind of makes sense, but it's still lame.) |

I know this wasn't a mystery to anyone, but now it's 100% confirmed. Ryunosuke is Maeda.
Setsu confirmed to to me again. :P |

Well done.
I've tryied to contact Takenobu Mitsuyoshi on FB, to get answer about Dolphin but no reply at the moment. I've seen also Tohru has an account, maybe I'll send him the question. |

Not sure if any of you already mentioned / suspected this, but I found a page that seems to indicate that Dolphin is "Y.T": http://rps7575.kt.fc2.com/scitron/SuperSonicTeam.htm (bottom)

That's not really direct proof because it's really easy to do things like that with Japanese names, but it was a pretty obvious hint. |

CHz, unless I misread something just now, did Hataya ever specifically say T.S was Sawada? Because if not then wouldn't it make more sense for T.S to be Tomoko Sasaki? She's worked with Oguro and Hataya before..

In the GA3 liner notes, Hataya mentions "Maeda, Oguro, Sawada, and Hataya" in some context. It seems likely that he's listing the members of the sound team, but I don't know what the rest of the sentence says so that's not at all a definite.
The game wasn't listed on Tomonori Sawada's Wave Master profiles, so it is possible T.S isn't him, yeah. It was never in Tomoko Sasaki's lists either, though, including the current one on her blog. |
