Note that I'm not sure if the track order is final since the site has it marked as contents and not the usual 'tracklist'.

Changed "Battle II" to "Decisive Battle II" as that is the correct English equivalent to the Japanese. The English tracklist on the website is definitely in error.

Square Enix Store (NA) has it now: https://store.na.square-enix-games.c...break-boost-cd.

The chiptune version of the main theme is available through here, too, as an MP3 download.

scans coming soon. Nishiki's liner notes are in Japanese and English. Here is the English text:

Quote:
Thank you for picking up
OCTOPATH TRAVELER Arrangements -Break & Boost-.

As a lifelong fan of video game music,
arrangement albums have always been near and dear to my heart.
And so, from the start, I put a lot of pressure on myself
to create an album that would hold its own next to the classics.

I'm truly grateful to all the talented arrangers and
performers who put every last one of my worries to
rest with work of simply incredible quality.
The result is an album which I'm proud to bring to
you as my first arrangement collection.

Personally speaking, I see Octopath Traveler as being like a festival of sorts.
It brings me back to the RPGs I played as a child,
and rekindles the memories of those vast worlds that stirred my heart.
Arrangement albums, too, were something irreplaceable to me
-- they allowed me to continue feeling that excitement,
even after the adventure had come to an end.

Nothing would make me happier than to be able to share that excitement with you,
in a "festival" of music. So whether you're a longtime aficionado like me,
or a newcomer to the world of game soundtracks, I hope you enjoy the album!

Yasunori Nishiki
I feel like he's saying he grew up listening to VGM arrange albums, like so many of us.

Regarding "A Settlement in the Bluffs," to my ears, it sounds like there are several notes that are off-key as the string instruments increase in speed. Are these off key notes a Japanese musical quirk or part of the Celtic musical style?

Yes. Though the song has even more a "bluegrass fiddle" vibe to me, at times.

But I do suspect pitch-bending was written into the piece, and Asian music will intentionally write in quarter-steps as well. There are definitely times the two "dueling" string instruments harmonize on quarter-step intervals, which sound fairly displeasing to our ears (especially in this context! We could handle it better in a solo performance of a slower song, I think). It was a bold choice, but it's not due to bad performance.

Thanks for the information. I wasn't sure if the off-key notes were bad performance or intentional in the song until you answered.

(Due to my lack of musical composition education, I thought the song was some kind of Irish jig, which is why I defaulted to "Celtic." I never thought about bluegrass fiddle music.)
