Default The Cost of Your VGM Hobby

We all know that we would like to own certain albums at some point throughout our lives, but how much do you think it will require you to spend in grand total, if you should ever fulfill your personal wishlist?

To date, there's 466 albums I'd like to own in my personal collection, someday, and it will at least cost as much as purchasing a vehicle, if not more. As time passes, that total cost will only increase as more and more past albums become both harder to find, and thus more expensive to buy. Of course, there are more variables to take into account, but I think perhaps in the range of $16,000 - $22,000 for me.

Is the question "how long will it take?", or "how much do you think you will have to spend?"?

Either way, I'm in the age of 17 (been collecting since I was 16-ish) and have already spent over $2000 on VGM, and that's only for 20 albums. I recently bought the most valuable thing that was in my wish list before (Digimon World OST) - which I spent a little over $400 on (which was, and still is sealed, though). So I don't have that much left on my wish list that I'd pay gazillions for.

So, what's left in my wish list, that I'd have to give my legs for, is probably the famous Super Donkey Kong soundtracks. But I honestly wouldn't spend more than $400 on those -- even if they were sealed.

Currently, my serious wishlist will cost me only 26.49$: there's still old CD which became unplayable.... Luckily Play-Asya still has the album in stock, quite surprising since it came out in 2001.

The amount of money needed will probably increase if a FINAL FANTASY VII remake with re-arranged soundtrack will get announced, or when the time comes for a new Biohazard release, for that matter

Actually I think I'm better off NOT knowing how much I've spent on this hobby during the past 12 years or so... It's probably way more than want to imagine.

I spent more on VGM this year than any other year. I think I purchased 18 albums, some of which were very expensive. I haven't purchased much over the last 4 years or so though, so I guess I experienced a sort of resurgence in interest. I'm not even done with my VGM purchases this year, as I still have to pick up The 3rd Birthday.

So much VGM, so little money

Don't be so pessimistic Mario! It's true that older and older than older albums will become harder to find, but I seem to notice prices do not always increase, so just be patient and you might grab yourself an incredible deal on something you thought to be too expensive for you.

I'd guestimate that so far I've spent just a little under $1,000 for my Sonic the Hedgehog music collection, especially since the soundtrack to Sonic Adventure was nearly $300. I've only been collecting for about a year though, and I bet I'll have to spend a fortune on the Sonic Adventure 2 soundtrack.

I'd rather not think about it... Specially considering the boxes and some of the rarer CDs I've gotten a hold of during this past year. And I still have quite a few pending someday....

My collection is a little over $1,000. The most expensive item in my collection, Violence Killer Original Soundtrack, cost me approx. $200/13,500 yen. I think it would take me another $2,000 to get my ideal collection.
