Regarding the recent edit changing the name from 崎元 to 﨑元 -- the new kanji does seem to appear in some places, however the Japanese wiki page for Hitoshi Sakimoto uses the former kanji for the name, so I'm reverting the edit.

Does anyone has any more information about this alternate kanji spelling? If it is valid, we might want to mention it in the entry notes.

His Facebook profile list Kagoshima-shi, Kagoshima, Japan as his hometown, and his current residence as Nakano-ku, Tokyo, Japan.

Hometown may refer to where he grew up, which might be different than his birth place.

True.
But wouldn't that be closer to his birth place than where he currently resides?

Basiscape's profile page states he was born in Tokyo. He apparently stayed in Kagoshima only for a half year.

so sakimoto will do music for an anime airing this summer named Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Sen'eki (-> Red Dragon War)
I hope it'll be better than romeo x juliet, valkyria or druaga :/

Romeo x Juliet had a great soundtrack, though!

And in case it isn't obvious, the anime will be based on the Red Dragon project that Sakimoto did music for previously: http://vgmdb.net/album/35190

Also +1 about RxJ having a great soundtrack.

Well, the producer said somebody famous is doing music but they can't announce who yet.

Surely they wouldn't need to say that if it was Sakimoto again, right?

Thus, expect Hiroyuki Sawano. HA!

Could be. She could also be referring to this, though it's not what I would call a big project (and it's just one song).

Sakimoto has been working on many projects towards the end of 2016 such as:
- Battle Champs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMA7...wiPZnj&index=1
- Zodiac: Orcanon Odyssey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZZUZVuu6Yc
And Tiger Knight, a game that was just released on Steam. Announcement here: https://twitter.com/Basiscape/status/791589944254791681
Hoping for a soundtrack of all these in 2017 so I can catch up on Sakimoto goodness.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a video interview that Sakimoto did where he talks about how one of his friends taught him basic music theory (or maybe it was about writing for an orchestra). I know that's a bit vague but that's about all I can recall right now. There are a couple video interviews on YT, but I don't think it's any of them.

It's been in the back of my mind for a few days now, and I fear there's a chance it's disappeared without a trace. I know for a fact he did an interview with 1UP but that site is now defunct, along with all its content.

There are other written interviews where he mentions this friend, but for some reason I seem to recall this interview being a filmed one. However, it's possible my memory is somewhat distorted.

Any help finding this would be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion. I couldn't get anything from that particular archive, but archive.is was a little better with the 1UP link, allowing me to see a snapshot of the first page, though no video unfortunately. I still don't know for sure if it's even this interview I'm thinking of however.
