Did anyone else that the Chrono Trigger/Cross arrangement used the opening chord (and orchestration, down to the string arpeggios) of the finale of Mahler's Symphony 2 at 8:30? It's a pretty distinctive chord (B-flat minor 9 inverted, with the C on the bottom), and it sounds out of place in the Chrono arrangement anyway. I wonder why it was chosen.

Anyway, great album.

Edit: Sorry, I said 7 chord originally. I meant 9.

According to 4Players.de, the encore will be released during this month (October 2010).

4Players didn't do their research properly. The booklet clearly states that Valtonen arranged all of the suites, Wanamo is (only) co/guest-arranger on the Chrono suite.

EDIT: Just sent them a mail.

Haha, oh wow. So I wasn't the only one who noticed it. That's exactly what gave this arrangement a really classical feeling to it. I loved it, though.

Indeed, Jonne Valtonen admitted Mahler was an influence while he worked on Fantasies. Another obvious reference is Holst's "Mars" in Kingdom Hearts, during "A Fight to the Death".

Apparently, he also used Ravel as a reference. It seems "Daphnis and ChloƩ" was quoted in a rather direct way in the Final Fantasy suite but I don't know when exactly. Well, it also had a major influence on the Secret of Mana suite, obviously...

Ah, okay. I noticed the Mars bit too, but it wasn't important enough to point out. After all, how many video game and movie scores have had their own versions of it? Front Mission 2 and Gladiator (not to mention Star Wars) come to mind...

Speaking of the encore, am I right that orchestra and choir were joined by both Rony Barrak and Benyamin Nuss for the final performance? I can certainly hear Rony's drumming, but I'm a bit unsure about Benyamin -- anyone who clearly remembers?

That's Symphonic Legends, we're talking about the Symphonic Fantasies encore here.

PB, you're wrong in both cases. Neither encore featured Benyamin. In Symphonic Fantasies, no piano was featured as I remember from attending both performances. In Symphonic Legends, it was the WDR Radio Orchestra's in-house pianist.

No, Benyamin Nuss was there for the encore of Legends, together with Rony Barrak.

Sorry, you're correct. I was talking about the Symphonic Poem, not the encore, as there was some confusion regarding his presence in the former.

You have to buy the whole album? I already bought it! Shouldn't there be a way for us that have the CD to get the encore?

Indeed. One of the many reasons I hate iTunes. >_<
