Ages ago we decided that an MMO's expansion (and add-ons) would deserve a product slot, now I've added them and those Releases need to migrate to each entry.

Did we actually decide that? I was still under the impression that MMO expansions would just be releases (and likewise, that Season 2 of a TV series would also be release).

I am guessing this discussion was finished.
Rise of the Zilart (English Expansion) was missed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XI A pre-emptive add for Seekers of Adoulin If add-ons are also being credited then A Crystaline Prophecy: Ode of Life Bestowing A Moogle Kupo d'Etat: Evil in Small Doses A Shantotto Ascension: The Legend torn, Her Empire Born |

Was it released outside of Japan? I thought FFXI was localized after the RoZ expansion was out in Japan, so it was included by default for U.S./EU players.
Anyways, I've admittedly left these entries unsolved for so long, but now I'd keep all expansions and add-on releases as a sub-product of the FFXI, not a separate entry, which meant it require some deletion and linking works. |

You are right that it was already attached to the main shipment of the game for the rest of the world.
Adding the name probably might be helpful. With that thought on FFXI, should this also happen with other MMORPGs or even normal games that add DLC, Add-ons and Expansions that may include extra music? Age of Conan, Guild Wars or World of Warcraft as an example for MMORPGs Dragon Age, Mass Effect for non MMOs |

Some random musings/questions.
For one, the PS2 version seems to use sequenced music whereas the PC and Xbox 360 ports have streamed audio. Secondly, and this is even more curious: in all versions of the game, certain tracks such as "The Grand Duchy of Jeuno" and "Xarcabard" are not properly looped. They have an ending to them and then the song restarts from the beginning after a second or so when playing. I'd love to find out why that is. Obviously it's not technical restrictions as both the sequenced and streamed audio versions have many tracks with proper loop points. I found many, many discussions about FF14 where some people requested non-looping background music like the pieces introduced with the new areas from A Realm Reborn, and some requested looping tracks like what the original FF14 release offered (see the links below). Apparently, A Realm Reborn's new areas would end the background music and then leave just environmental ambience playing for a time, immersing players into the game. But this is obviously not the reason why FF11 has some non-looped tracks as the music only goes silent for a second or so. https://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/topic/...looping-music/ https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...280-Loop-music https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...ots-(no-music) https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/318693 https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/347617 https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...to-un-loop-BGM https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...after_a_while/ Edit: Thanks to a video of the PS2 version from dentrel exploring Ceizak Battlegrounds where "Into Lands Primeval - Ulbuka" plays, we can confirm that the PSF2 set is true to the music on the original PS2 hardware. This confirms that the PS2 music was indeed different from the PC/Xbox 360 versions, even though it may only be the case for some tracks. That leaves the question on the non-looping tracks. All I could find was a comment by Mizuta where he explained that he would listen to his FF11 pieces for a long time to see if they would get repetitive, especially the battle music. But nothing on why some tracks were looped and some weren't. I hope someone can ask him that in a future interview. Last edited by zierts; Feb 6, 2023 at 06:24 AM. |
