What is this logo/mark?
On the bottom of my Metal Gear Solid soundtrack and Tales of Symphonia soundtrack, there is a blue rectangle with two smaller yellow rectangles on the inside that are standing up and spaced out. I found this odd considering one product is from Konami, and the other is from Namco.
Is this an indicator of a pirated product, or something else entirely? |

I've never noticed that before, but here it is on the bottom of the Obi:

Thank you for the fast response, Secret Squirrel. I am relieved to know this isn't a fake, but I am still curious as to what the logo's signifigance is.
I should explain why I seem so paranoid: you see, I bought three soundtracks from three separate vendors late last year, and I only recently found out they were bootlegs. I never open them, thankfully, so I was able to return the two I purchased for myself. The last one is a gift, so i'll have to work something out with the recipient. |

I don't know either if it has any special meaning, but it's something which is used by King Records, and you will typically see it on the obi for, at least, their game related releases. There are also similar marks used on the spines of the back insert, early releases looking like this and later ones like this.
Organized bootleggers will typically use their own catalog numbering, so always be aware of that when you're unsure of whether an album you want to buy is authentic or not. |

What does "Obi/obi" mean (asides from a Star Wars character)?

It's the Japanese equivalent of "spine card". The term originally refers to the sash worn around a kimono (like a belt). It's easier to see the connection with books and magazines, since their version of the obi is a slip of paper wrapped around the cover.

Definitely a King Records related design/mark/logo. Maybe some visual thing used to check printing alignment/correctness?
