I think that was intentional. I think the lyrics were taken directly from a few characters of the game. The vocalists name Ginga, stands for ballad, doesn't it? His whole name sounds like a country folk singer.

Also the lyricist and screenwriter for the anime is the same for Tenchi Muyo! He does a good job at bringing a story together but his dialogue is too generic. He also does a number of lyrics for songs used in anime sequences.

You mean Banjo Ginga, he's the voice of Medeus in the animation.

The name always struck me as unusual. I feel it is a pen name for this particular release. I didn't watch the anime, but I didn't think an evildoer would convey such a poetic virtue.
