Someone who I hoped would never need an official page on VGMdb.

That's my point. Hollywood film music went backwards when him and his employees started handling so many of the big projects. I really fear the same will happen for video game music.

He has worked on quite a few brilliant movie soundtracks, though. For a time, I was afraid Basiscape would turn into a VGM version of Media Ventures but fortunately I was proven wrong.

No, Remote Control Productions is the VGM version of themselves. They're now working on around a dozen major Western game projects a year and that number seems to grow each time.

I don't see much of a problem here. If you ask me Hans Zimmer's music was always more fitting into video games than movies.
It's only a shame that game studios will only care to have a big name, somebody as reputable to have worked in the film industry, associated with their product.
Western games always headed into that direction. Movies have become the role model for games and Remote Control reflects that. It's a fundamental problem, and if the companies gave their composers more creative freedom / interesting projects to work with, Hans Zimmer would also be able to contribute great music again, I'm sure.

no-one has to embrace it. of course he can work on as many game soundtracks as he likes, doesn't mean anyone is obliged to care.

i haven't heard enough of his music to judge him really (only second-hand opinions) so i guess i'm indifferent at this point. not really big on western soundtracks anyway, precisely because they too often trot the LOLOMGEPIC lets-make-everything-like-hollywood mode of thought.

Wait.

He was the one who wrote the music for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? I saw the cutscenes on Youtube a while back, no wonder I thought it sounded like one of those over the top war movies. :P

I think he wrote only the main theme actually, but Balfe loves Zimmer's style so they both sound similar...
