NES & Rock Music Similarities
I remember a thread here comparing video game music to other music & thought this would be a good place to post this:
I'm going to be updating this (to fix one of the entries) so I highly welcome any suggestions. Finally finished! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJi2Q5NgOHw Last edited by Jedi QuestMaster; Mar 31, 2013 at 02:26 AM. |

Never base a comparison solely on a chord progression, unless it's EXTREMELY unique, which none of the examples you cited are. Some of them are based on cliches like falling chromatic bass lines, which can be found in any style of music from any era. Most of them don't even sound all that similar. I'd wager that they are (almost) all coincidences.

I'm not implying that anyone stole anything from anybody; whether some of these are coincidence or intentional has no bearing.
By the way, how is this not unique? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haU2_lAfT1c#t=53s |

I'd wager a couple of the NES ones are deliberate homages (the one that sounds like Smoke in the Water especially) but mostly the bits are just too small anyway to really be even remotely considered. Some you have to REALLY push it, too.
