Here's another SonMay bootleg I discovered amongst my collection. I believe I ordered this alongside MGS 2, so I wasn't completely surprised to see this (these came from CDJapan, for the record).
Much like that album, I believe this is another 'almost 1:1' copy. The booklet is a folding thingy, so I don't know if that's any different than the original. It has some extra Solid and Liquid art, unless the original album's scans are incomplete. If you compare the front cover from this album to the front cover of the original Konami release, you can see some expert use of Photoshop's clone tool to remove the Konami text. Needless to say, this did not come with a slipcase. Last edited by Judge Ito; Sep 26, 2008 at 07:30 PM. |

Bootlegs? From CDJapan?

Could the thread title of this and the MGS2 bootleg be changed to say "(bootleg)" rather than reprint? "Reprint" makes it looks official to the casual goer.

I added some code to put the bootleg indicator in the thread title.

I also very highly doubt this came from CDJapan.
Please provide a scan of their packing slip (which also shows the catalog number) to support this claim. Last edited by Carl; Sep 27, 2008 at 04:58 AM. |

Yes, we have to be careful here. In all of our dealings with CDJapan, I've never heard of a case where they shipped a bootleg product.

Carl, I purchased this years ago alongside Metal Gear Solid 2, and the only site I can remember ordering from that long ago was CDJapan. This would have been in late 2001/early 2002. I don't have any slips to show or any agenda against them, I'm just relaying the events as I remember them.
Of my small collection (1/5 of which is from CDJapan) these are the only SonMay's I've seen. Considering this was just after MGS 2 (the game) came out, the soundtrack albums may have been in high demand and they may have had to resort to shipping these to fill orders (dumb speculation, I know). Do they do any regular business with Taiwan? |

It seems really highly unlikely that a company like CDJapan would order stuff from Taiwan and that way get a bootleg copies to their storages. Atleast this is the first time I've ever heard someone getting a bootleg from CDJapan.
You haven't done any dealings with Gamemusic (I do remember hear them dealing with bootlegs in their history)? |

I don't know what else to tell you. There's a first time for everything, and if I'm the only one who has had this problem with them, then I think that just goes to show how good CDJ's record is on this sort of thing.
