I only played the first AK on the Genesis and it was very briefly but one song always stuck out in my head. It was the track that played when you were on the main stage.
Anyway, I love Sega and WaveMaster for all these box sets. Now were is our Shining Force Box? |

Wish I knew, I've only seen 1 copy even on Yahoo Japan Autions, much less listed at any online shop....
Too bad it's so hard to find. |

Got the tracklist up. Scans coming.
The booklet states the composer is SEGA, with no additional info given. The composers added are from the credits screens on the games. However most of the Alex Kidd games does not have credits. I'll ask Take and Hiro next time i see them on skype |

Some notes on the translation. For Alex Kidd in Miracle World (disc 1, 01-11) many of the tracks were included on Sega Game Music Vol.1, in both katakana and romanized form (note: スコパコサイクル=Scopaco Cycle, ジャンケン / じゃんけん=Jung-Keng and プチコプター=Petit-Copter). And for Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (disc 2, 10-27), since this release is all about nostalgia, I choose to go with the location names from the English localized versions. They are more or less literal translations anyway.

Is there any reason for adding Sega Store as a Distributor here?
Looking at Sega Store's CD section it's not available or even listed there, so I'd vote for removing it as seems there is no distribution at all for this C76-only item (ditto for the Sega Motorcycle album). |

Sega Store is listed on the obi of this one as being the distributor. But you're right, I can't find it on the site either, and the Wave Master album list doesn't list either as being on sale in it. I don't know if they changed their minds, or if they just haven't gotten around to adding it, or what. I think this article says they were C76 presales, so they might be added at a later date?

Now Sega Store finally has a shopping cart open for this item and Sega Motorcycle.

This was a pretty awful listening experience to me. I'm curious; is this mostly nostalgia value for people? I've never been exposed to the games.

I played The Lost Stars and Miracle World on Master System when I was very young. I think the music is kinda quirky and fun but yeah, no real interest in it beyond nostalgia for me personally. I guess it's just very simplistic

Any guesses on who XOR is? It definitely must the same arranger as the one for the original 8-bit Shinobi.
Personally, my guess is Sachio Ogawa, as AKiSW's music sounds a little bit like SpellCaster. |

A lot of 8-bit music sounds similar, it could very well be somebody who only worked on this game. Also, most Sega composers from back then tended to stick to the same one across many years, but who knows.

Good point. After thinking about it, Ogawa probably isn't XOR (he'd instead use an alias like Sting Ogawa). Instead, it's probably just the same sound programmer so that's probably why they use similar instruments.

Quote:
I don't think it's Yasuhiro Kawakami, who handled the Master System version of Shinobi, as IIRC he'd already left Sega by that point. |

Looking through the booklet, I'm not seeing anything to suggest Tokuhiko Uwabo as lyricist, and [H.] 1st Album contradicts it by specifying Toshinori Asai as the lyricist for Song of Alex Kidd.
Is there anything in the Japanese text to suggest Uwabo wrote lyrics, or was that just an unsourced edit? Last edited by Nicolaas Hamman; Dec 9, 2019 at 06:13 AM. |

Hiro listed Pit Pot in his works list on his old Hitmaker profile (with the note "All BGM") and has talked about composing for it since then.
