If they are accurate, I was totally right about Tenebrae. It was arranged by Aoki.

Then again, Bros on the Road I and II are credited to two different composers (Nakama and Shimomura respectively) even though they're the same music, just different arrangements. So that's troublesome.

I'll have to spend some time combing through these to see how they match with my guesses.

I have transcribed the complete credits from e-onkyo.
I suspect they may still be incomplete, particularly when it comes to orchestrators.

It seems Shota Nakama had a massive role on this score, having co-arranged a ton of Shimomura's work.

As for Shimomura herself, it seems she only handled four tracks on her own: 112 Lurking Danger, 220 Imperial Infiltration, 306 Creeping Shadows, and 405 Careening Into Danger.

I tried to put changes/clarifications from the other credits listed in this thread in bold, but I may have missed some. Might want to just double-check all tracks if you are obsessive about tagging artists like I am.

Then we need to credit him as co-composer of "Bros on the Road II".

I am terrible at identifying individual composer's styles in a score, and I've only ever really heard her work in BofIII and IV, but even I thought when listening to Tenebrae "this isn't Shimomura, this is someone else, probably Aoki." I quite like "Stand Your Ground" - it's very Shimomura (yes, I know I said I'm terrible at identifying individual composer's styles, but Shimomura is very distinctive: overuseof the piano's high range, solo violins, string ostinatos, idiophone counterpoint, probably other stuff I can't remember or can't name) and reminds me a lot of "Blue Radiance" from Radiant Historia, albeit with more intensity and more flourish. I haven't listened to the full score yet, but those are my thoughts based on what I've heard.

Well it can't be worse than Okabe.

Oh wait

In all seriousness, this is an interesting approach for Square. Loyalty to their internal sound team has long since been replaced with a broad willingness to bring on freelancers for major roles. They've dabbled with that attitude intermittently over the years--some producers and directors more than others--but never have they so fully invested in it as with FF15. This is a major sea change for the developer.

Even when the FF13 trilogy's live instrumentation necessitated bringing on more arrangers and orchestrators than in past ventures, the composition work was still handled by internal composers (or former Square composers as in Hamauzu's case).

With FF15, while a former Square composer handled the majority of composition work, the majority of that majority was arranged by Shota Nakama plus a score of others (again owing to the large amount of live performances ordered). Then Shibata, Aoki, and Suzuki filled in the rest of the composition work (comprising about 1 out of 4 discs worth of music).

This is an observation rather than a judgement. We can't know if the trend will continue, though I expect it will as Square continues to double down on its philosophy of dumping obscene amounts of resources into AAA projects.

On the one hand, Square's roster of internal composers has long since dwindled to less than a shadow of its former greatness. Most of their composers from the 90s have either gone on to establish themselves as successful freelancers (Mitsuda, Hamauzu, Uematsu, Shimomura, Kikuta, Ito), are still a mild presence on the VGM radar but are otherwise in seemingly professional limbo (Nakano, Sasai), or have disappeared or outright retired from the field (Matsueda, Kawakami). Square continues to work with about half of those who left, and have oddly snubbed the rest. So perhaps its best to start looking for more help.

On the other hand, my attitude about Naoshi Mizuta has warmed from lukewarm to absolutely adoring since I first heard his work in FFXI 16 years ago. He's a real talent, and is incredibly versatile. If I could, I'd make him the next sole Final Fantasy composer in a heartbeat. And Mitsuto Suzuki has really started to come into his own--his FF13 work was exceptional. So it would be a shame to see these two cast aside in favor of external composers, and frankly Mizuta is better than just about anyone they could (or would) get. I fear FF legacy director Takashi Tokita is the only one who recognizes that.

Yeah, I'm not overly impressed by Square's in-house talent at the moment. I especially loathe Ishimoto.

I don't ever intend on getting any FF15, so perhaps you could tell me if the 6 tracks that user uploaded make up the full soundtrack from Episode Prompto?

To add more uncertainty to the mix, there's a wide variety in what arrangement can really mean.

Recall the way Hamauzu and Nakano worked on FFX where they took material written by Uematsu elsewhere and created entirely new, fully-formed compositions based on it.

Now take a track like "Stand Your Ground" whose arrangement is credited to Suzuki. But really, this track is essentially just an arrangement of Shimomura's "Careening Into Danger". It's entirely possible that Suzuki is fully responsible for "Stand Your Ground", and that Shimomura never created a separate battle version of "Careening Into Danger" in the first place.

If that's that case for "Stand Your Ground" (and I'm betting it is), I wonder how many other tracks belong more to their arrangers than to Shimomura.

Makes me wonder if SQEX decides to release another soundtrack album with the music from the DLCs. But I guess they're still milking the series, so maybe after episode Luna?

Reminder of missing music:

Main game:
- Chapter 14 battle theme
- Street musicians (minor cues)
- Lucian Cruisin' Collection (6 radio tracks): ?
- Afrojack songs: Braver (radio), Afrosword / timed quest theme (update 1.09), timed quest menu?
- October 2017 update: Gentiana/etc additional cutscenes (Yoshitaka Suzuki, violin by Yuma Ito)
- Chapter 13 verse 2 update: Ravus cutscene? (unsure if music is new)
- Main menu credits last subsong: from here (Yoshitaka Suzuki)

DLCs
- Episode Gladio: Keiichi Okabe (music) [main theme, Gilgamesh], Tetsuya Shibata, Yoshino Aoki, Yoshitaka Suzuki, others?
- Episode Prompto: Naoshi Mizuta (guest composer), Yoshitaka Suzuki (composer: fields, battles, final boss?), Takuro Iga (arranger), others?
- Episode Ignis: Yasunori Mitsuda (main theme guest composer), Tadayoshi Makino (composer), others?
(the above also credit music scoring and stuff, maybe other people worked)
- Chocobo Carnival: Yoko Shimomura (main theme), Yoshitaka Suzuki (final cutscene) [no staff roll]
- Assassin's Festival: Tadayoshi Makino, Mitsuhiro Ohta (composers)
- Comrades: Nobuo Uematsu (Theme song/final boss, arranged by Tsutomu Narita), Kawamori, Hirosato Noda (music production), Tadayoshi Makino, Tsutomu Narita, Yoshitaka Suzuki (music scoring/music), Tomomichi Takeoka, Tai Tomisawa (music scoring/additional music), others?
- Episode Ardyn: ? :3

As for the OST, I found it baffling at times but ultimately great, just like the game itself (I love zany stuff like being able to ruin the tone by playing Sunleth Waterscape in the portable MP3 player).

Oh, didn't realize about the new cutscene tracks. Now I wonder if they stealthly added others (chapter 13 verse 2?) too.

Probably missed some people as I didn't add all roles (like the main game credits Shibata and co as "scoring") but you get the idea. IOW we'll have to play "guess the credits" in the (hopefully) FF XV OST Plus.

I don't remember anything new in chapter 13 verse 2. Can't be 100% sure though.

Credits-wise, they were a bit more specific and transparent in the DLCs, so maybe the guesswork will be fairly limited this time. At least we know the exact contributions of Okabe, Mizuta, Uematsu and Mitsuda. Something tells me there were some internal politics with the main game that made the exact crediting pointing to Shimomura even she wasn't involved (i.e. "Wanderlust", pretty sure it's 100% by Suzuki).

The credits situation is weird but feels more negligence than hiding. Like, they put a bunch of OST interviews (or here, Shimomura mentions she did Careening Into Danger, then Suzuki arranged into Stand Your Ground, without involvement), plus the digital releases credits. Compare to something like NieR that seemed like they purposedly forbade credits.

Yoshitaka Suzuki did 25/26 pieces (>>), and Shota Nakama "almost all trailers" (>>)

Also I added some more stuff I remembered.

Does anyone know if there's an official release of the lyrics for the various songs of the track [eg. stuff like Apocalypsis Noctis and Hellfire] (and if so, where)? Square is so fickle when it comes to this sort of thing (eg. they release them alongside initial printings for Dissidia OSTs but take several years to do the same for Type-0) and it's irritating.

Going through this one a bit (through 2 discs) and I'm surprised at the overall quality (in a good way). It's tastefully modern sounding. Certainly very little to remind one of classic FF, but I get a bit of a Shin Megami Tensei vibe from it. Lots of guitar. Excellent production. Almost no filler (not to say every track is memorable, but very little material I feel the need to cut out). I feel like this is what Crisis Core COULD have been, musically.

From someone that stopped caring about FF nearly a decade ago, I'm exceptionally pleased thus far.
