Can anyone provide verification (via a higher-quality back scan) that October 25 is the official release date? Most online sources are equally divided between 10-25 and 11-25 as the date.

Thanks for the confirmation, Prime Blue, and for looking over the translation.

Quote:
12 - Into the Door
I wonder if "Through the Door" is what they are really saying here.

Quote:
15 - Beddy-Bye
I agree.

Quote:
18 - The Underground of the Giant Tree
Nothing sounds smooth here, but how about "Underground in the Giant Tree." It's another valid translation for no, where [Place] + no == in [Place] instead of "of".

Quote:
33 - Way Home
I'd go with making them both "The Way Home". To me, "way" sounds awkward without "the".

So, I checked my CD again:

Yes, it's the the 25th October. The 10 is fairly hard to read due the white background. And some suggestions about the translated tracknames:

12 Trough the Door (like said before)
18 The Giant Tree's Underground
33 The Way Home (like said before)

Now is probably a good time to criticize the limits of English, it's so much easier to translate Japanese to German. In that language, it'd be "In die Tür hinein" oder "Rein in die Tür".
Rein in die Tür? Zu sehr Umgangssprache imo
I've just checked it myself and disagree with my posting before. "Into the door" seems to be the best choice, after all: In the game scene Ark goes into the door and creates/awakens the world.

But the text refers to the inner side of the door, right? It would be better renamed "Inside the Door", or?

I think "into the doorway" might be better, since "into the door" gives the impression that you're walking into it (ouch)!

Or maybe I just have too much imagination...

"Under the Giant Tree" is a more natural translation, although "The Giant Tree's Underground" isn't wrong per se.

While we are at it, shouldn't track 2 be something like "to/into an even wider world"?

That's not necessarily the case. For example,

http://www.princess.ne.jp/~erb/gouhon01.html

The Japanese translation for "Under the Mountains" is 山脈の地下.

But in Terranigma, if I remember correctly, you really are in an underground area down around the roots of a giant tree.

And so is the book chapter I referenced -- it takes place in underground tunnels underneath mountains. But I suppose the problem lies with the English; "underground" when used as a noun more commonly denotes "resistance movement". (See definitions here or here) Normally you use it as an adjective ("underground river") or an adverb ("river flowing underground").

That's why both "The Giant Tree's Underground" and "The Underground of the Giant Tree" sound so weird to me -- you don't commonly see "underground" used in such a manner.

But on the flipside, "Beneath the Giant Tree" doesn't explicitly show that it's below the ground (it could be at the base of the tree). It still sounds more natural to me, though. I say, let the audience work out the context, and put a note if need be.

Well, what I meant is that さらなる (a prenominal adjective) should go with 広い世界 before applying the へ.
So rather than "further into the (wide world)" (さらなる separate), I think it should be more like "into the (more wide world) (さらなる together).
Or maybe I'm just misreading the english track name?

If you want to be that specific about the location in the tree track title, it's totally possible to be that specific without using "underground" as a noun, which I agree with Blah is a little odd and wouldn't commonly be used like that. Why not "The Cavern Beneath the Giant Tree" or something like that, it's unambiguous and natural sounding.

Yeah, "The Ground Under the Giant Tree" does give the impression of the Earth's surface. But "Under the Ground of the Giant Tree" sounds reasonable.

It's more than nice to transcribe the album staffs, but I'd want to confirm which is a confirmed reading and which is not.

I was the one who transcribed them. I'm sorry if what I did caused more problems than something helpful.

Given we refrain from guessing readings of artists these days, and are going to treat these album staffs in the same way as them, perhaps leaving them in Kanji would be safer. Guessing would be allowed only if they're clearly marked as unconfirmed, and maybe the addition of "?" isn't enough (although I remember I used to do that). I'd definitely want more people with passion and time transcribe stuff, though, so not really caviling at your good job, but just wanted to know whose, aside of 浜谷輝子, readings you're not sure? Googles returns few pages for 重永順一郎, for example.

I don't know which were unverified, so I removed all name romanizations.

Push.

Any chances someone will replace the obi-scan with a new and better one? I'm considering printing one out for my own soundtrack.

It could just be in my head but does "Evergreen" sound like an extended version of the guitar riff from this song starting at 1:13? I heard that song randomly and it reminded me of this game.

In hindsight, I wish this game was officially released in the US (and not just PAL region) back in the 90s so that Quintet would have a chance at that "big break" that this game could have provided.

English tracks 1-6 should be titled with the suffix (arrange version), like on other online sources. This is to let the user know the differences between the identical tracks.

No, it shouldn't. It is not part of the track title as printed in the booklet and on the back.

It is additional information that should be listed in the notes (and already is).

Edit: Please note that some of the titles for compositions not included on the OST (given in the leftmost column) are tentative titles thought up by the composers and may change if there is a full soundtrack release. It's probably best to stay close to the Japanese for this list but official English titles should stray further to get closer to what was meant.
