get mail from mono memory:

[TL : DR - we were issued a cease & desist by CAPCOM and we need to pull the digital listing from Bandcamp. This does not affect physical purchases which are now packed and ready to ship. But it does mean that you should take the opportunity between now and Friday to download the audio from Bandcamp].

First up, thanks to everyone who picked this record up and made it a success. The artist is exceptionally proud of the response of the synth wave community to RE:MIXED, and we are honoured to have been able to work with him in its production.

Unfortunately we have received what amounts to a ‘cease & desist’ letter, advising us to remove the album before the 24th of January, and we have taken the decision to comply with that request.

The letter alleges copyright infringements related to the Resident Evil series, and as a small independent we have no choice but to agree to their request

I would have assumed an album like this that they are charging money for had all the licensing stuff taken care of. If they were giving it away for free, they probably wouldn't have had any issues from Capcom. But since they are charging for it, they should have gone through the proper channels first. Hopefully they can go through a service like Soundrop and re-release the album properly. I'm not sure how easy it is to get licenses for covers from Resident Evil games, but it's worth trying.

Yeah, they should have been able to get mechanical license for all of the source tunes, or ask like Materia Collective or other big indie music publishers for help.

Yeah, I was surprised that they hadn't done that. The reality is that they probably figured they could save some money. Or they couldn't clear the license and just went for it anyway.
