Is it conventional to credit sound effects designers as composers if there is a sound effects collection in a soundtrack? I'd have thought the additional notes would be best, but thought I'd check.

Put them in additional notes first, later when we extend the artist role definitions you can link them up.

I unlinked the SE composer. We'll add him back in the future.

Yuko Takehara composing Staff Roll is from the liner notes of the Rockman 2: The Power Fighters OST.

I don't intend to pick holes, but as Yuko Takehara also says about half of the soundtrack was by her, it'd be better to add this info as well. With the current note, somebody could take it that the 28th track is her only contribution. Again, just my little suggestion.

I've been thinking about picking up the PS1 version of this game lately (which I think uses redbook audio but I'm not sure; my original copy was stolen back in 03') but after watching some videos on you tube I was stunned by the difference in audio between the arcade and the PS1. Then again, I guess I shouldn't be considering Alpha (Zero) 2 did the same thing.

Zelkin's Stage theme is awesome, as is June's.

"Stage 1, 2, 3, 4" are obviously Isao Abe.
Actually, "Stage 3" almost sounds like a mix of both composers with the first half being Takehara and second being Abe.
"Stage 6" sounds like typical Takehara.
Not entirely sure on some of the symphonic tracks ("Stage 5, 7, 9", "Special Stage", "Name Entry"), but I'm leaning towards Takehara.
The rest are too short/simplistic to judge.

Also, I swear I've heard something similar to the intro of "Good Ending RIMGAL" before, but can't quite place it.

I thought I'd post this here since there isn't an entry for the PS1 redbook:

Star Gladiator PS1 Redbook Tracklisting:

01) Untitled (Game Data [Unplayable]) 4:34
02) Untitled (Character Select) 2:20
03) Untitled (Stage 1) 2:42
04) Untitled (Stage 2) 3:00
05) Untitled (Stage 3) 3:07
06) Untitled (Stage 4) 2:56
07) Untitled (Stage 5) 2:15
08) Untitled (Stage 6) 3:12
09) Untitled (Stage 7) 2:47
10) Untitled (Stage 8) 2:08
11) Untitled (Stage 9) 2:04
12) Untitled (Stage 10) 2:11
13) Untitled (Special Stage) 2:08
14) Untitled (Continue) 0:19
15) Untitled (Good Ending Hayato) 1:11
16) Untitled (Good Ending June) 1:14
17) Untitled (Good Ending Saturn) 1:20
18) Untitled (Good Ending Gamof) 1:03
19) Untitled (Good Ending Gerelt) 1:11
20) Untitled (Good Ending Rimgal) 1:08
21) Untitled (Good Ending Zelkin) 1:13
22) Untitled (Good Ending Vector) 1:02
23) Untitled (Good Ending Gore) 0:58
24) Untitled (Good Ending Bilstein) 1:00
25) Untitled (Bad Ending) 0:45
26) Untitled (Staff Roll) 2:00
27) Untitled (Name Entry) 0:42
28) Untitled ([Dead Air]) 3:30

It should be noted that the track "Here Comes a New Challenger" isn't present in the redbook audio, probably due to the fact that when player two interrupts a solo game by pressing the start button the console probably can't move to that piece of music on the disc on a dime like that since it's drive is already reading a stage theme.

In my opinion tracks 03 and 08 benefit the most from the upgraded synth and IMO it's pretty important as those are both heavy hitters.

You can put this to rest. I bought the album and in the liner notes it tells you who wrote/arranged what (well, only the main stage themes). I'll update the album info when I upload some new scans.

Edit:

Uploaded. I didn't expect the credits to be in the book honestly. I'm happy to know who wrote what. Kind of surprised Takehara wrote "Stage 9" myself. Love that theme and it personifies Gore to a tee.
