Even though Motoi is the head composer I'm still hoping for a healthy dose of Go Shiina in this OST.

One of the people who I'd love to see more active these days.

Same here. I wouldn't even mind if Shiina took over entirely -- this guy needs more projects of this size.

I hope so, too, but honestly, I doubt it... Luckily, it's easy to figure out who composed what, as each has their own style (the same with Sakuraba and Tamura)!

The samples so far don't sound at all like Shiina is trying to adapt to the Tales sound so it should be easy to tell them apart. But one shouldn't expect Shiina to do many of the 109 tracks...

Official interview video with Sakuraba: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R23f0Vughk4
Would expect one with Shiina to come as well.

Watching the end of the video it seems the cover uploaded for this regular print is actually the one for the LE?

Cover is first press yeah.

My poor attemp of a summary, don't spread:
- game is a return to the roots, OST too
- no particular difficulties making it
- fav tracks: battle/boss tracks (rock-ish)
- melody making: generally, steadly adding phrases
- game music: asked for slow, fast, bright music > makes based on his mental image
- took 14 months
- for him, game music isn't different than other music
- for him, "Tales" is part of his own history
- please enjoy etc

The expected official video interview with Shiina: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrrIJbtLCAE
He worked on 14 tracks (according to the description), among them plenty vocals. To my personal dissatisfaction this includes several areas where I greatly prefer instrumentals. =/

The music of the game is good btw, there are more and more tracks to find on youtube. Here's a good playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...JgW-Ud6XJlzfE8

Shiina's Tales of Legendia is definitely one of the best in the series. A pity, he only composed 14 tracks, but those stick out from the rest, I guess. From what I've heard, there's not really much which thrilled me, even the battle and boss themes from Sakuraba-san sound all the same from the layout and style. Well I only listened to a couple of tracks, maybe the presentation on CD or within the gameplay is better.

After 20 years Sakuraba will be having his first Tales related live performance as part of this year's Tales of Festival on June 6th at the Yokohama Arena. No mention if it's a band or solo performance. Hope this one gets a DVD release like many festivals did. http://tof.tales-ch.jp/cast/

Said live performance was today, twitter reactions seem to be mostly positive. Sakuraba appears to have played with a band, though only bassist Atsushi Hasegawa was name dropped (there was also drums and probably e-guitar).

Hope a video recording of it makes it onto the event's Tales of Festival BD.

Edit: Band pic from https://twitter.com/dadahook/status/607157627596840960

Maybe someone recognizes the two guys on the left?

Edit2: Ok, looks like the one with the hat is Shinichiro Fukuda (guitar), and the left most Yoshinori Imai (drums). Which makes it the same band setup as with Phantasy Star Nova actually.

Edit3: Actual playlist according to Nore: http://taletalesource.blog69.fc2.com...3323.html#more
  1. Zestiria medley: Legend of the Shepherd, Sorey's Theme ~Purity~, Mountain Ruins Brimming with Ageless Charm, Seize Your Sword and Uphold Your Will, An Exciting First Journey, The God Clad in Chaos and Calamity
  2. Battle medley: Threatening Sky (ToP), The Arrow Was Shot (TotA), Daring Sword (ToX), Clenching the Fists (ToX)
  3. Quiet medley: Tales of Symphonia (ToS), Dance of the Unified Water (ToG), The Cold Morning Star Passes By (ToV)
  4. Eternal Mind (ToE)
  5. Proof of Choice (ToX2)
  6. Lion - Irony of Fate (ToD)
  7. Take Up the Cross (ToP)

Edit4: Gamer with a couple photos from the event: http://www.gamer.ne.jp/news/201506070004/

The Shiina tracks all seem reworked from their actual use in the game in some way, shortened, combined, different or additional sounds etc. I'm told that's typical for Shiina's soundtracks.

Warner Music Japan keeps being involved with Tales music, this time they are sponsoring a Tales of Orchestra performance for the 20th anniversary. Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra is playing at Tokyo International Forum A on December 9th. http://www.talesoforchestra.com/

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I kept skipping through the CDs to make sure I wasn't just imagining things, but the song isn't included in the OST. It's one of the best songs on the game and they didn't bother to put it in the soundtrack that's filled with songs that don't even last a minute, kinda stupid.

Anyway, here's the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ryo_Os-sanw

From this interview, I think that was Shiina's decision, he always leaves out tracks and alters them a bit.

Re Tales of Orchestra the first couple pieces to be played were revealed. It seems not only BGM (Sorey's Theme ~Purity~/ToZ, boss battle medley containing Decisive/ToP, Lion-Irony of fate/ToD, Coup de Grace/ToD2, Scutum - decisive battle/ToR and For the sake of mutual proof/ToX2) but also J-Pop songs (The Dream Will Not Die/ToP, progress/ToX, A Firefly's Light/ToL) will be arranged.
