avex Entertainment catalog numbers and the /B
Does anyone know what the /B stands for at the end of the AVCA and AVCD catalog numbers? Here's an example
AVCA-26225/B They are on a fair number of albums, but some sites list them and some sites don't. They seem to show up most often on the limited-edition releases that contain a DVD. I'd like to figure out when to include the /B, and whether or not there was a corresponding release that doesn't have the /B (note: the regular no-DVD releases for these albums is always a different catalog number altogether.) |

Well, just checked DMC 4 special soundtrack, and seems that the /B on those avex albums is just a catalogue number for the dvd, example like in DMC 4: AVCD-23419/B.
Too lazy to check Rumble Roses soundtracks if those two have the same deal with the DVDs. |

The /B seems to be used for limited releases featuring a bonus dvd, yes. As for the cat. numbers, it tends to be that the limited release is one number ahead of the regular release, plus a "/B", like the example below.
AVCD-31433/B Ninin Sankyaku / misono AVCD-31434 Ninin Sankyaku / misono The /B seems to only be used in the case of a limited edition though, as for example the three 'FFX-2 Vocal Collection' albums, which feature one cd + one dvd, don't have the /B. |

I have a ton of Super Eurobeat albums from Avex, and with these releases, the /B and /C indicate any old second or third disc that comes with a release (similar to how most publishers use the tilde, e.g., XXXX-31~2). For example, Super Eurobeat Vol. 110 has three discs and has the catalog number AVCD-10110/B/C. There was no one-disc release for this album. For the Super Eurobeat series at least, this enables the catalog numbers to line up perfectly with each new volume. You know that SEB Vol. 192 will have the catalog number AVCD-10192.
The Best of SEB albums that are put out each year use the more conventional tilde notation, though. |
