Disney's Music Trivia:

• Frank Churchill was the original composer of Peter Pan and wrote eight pages of sketches including several songs in the early forties, while Charles Wolcott provided more songs for the project in 1941

• In 1944, after war and strike issues, the project resumed with a new director and Eliot Daniel, who wrote songs for the movie. However, this version of the project was also abandoned because the studios' focus on Cinderella

• The score for the final, released version of the film was written by Oliver Wallace with songs created by the Award-winning duo of Sammy Fain, who worked on Alice in Wonderland before, and lyricist Sammy Cahn.
Oliver Wallace wrote two songs with screenwriters Erdman Penner, Winston Hibler and Ted Sears, and Frank Churchill's penned "Never Smile at a Crocodile" appears within the sore and as bonus track in its original version

• The seventy-six minute film contains some 124 musical sequences

• Next to the songs, which serve as leitmotifs similar to those in other animated features before, Peter Pan has his own leitmotif, occuring prominently throughout the score, often played by flute, suggesting the mythological origins of Peter Pan

• The melody of "The Second Star to the Right" was originally written for Alice in Wonderland. This song, which was titled "Beyond the Laughing Sky", was deleted from the film, as it felt that having an opening ballad
sung by a female character that longs to escape her reality would invite too much comparison with the MGM classic The Wizard of Oz (1939)

• Kathryn Beaumont's singing voice improved significantly in the time between Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan, yielding a better performance than that heard in Alice. It can be heard on the song "Your Mother and Mine", performed by Wendy Darling in the film

• Frank Churchill's song "Never Smile at a Crocodile" was very popular when it was released, however the actual song with lyrics by Jack Lawrence, never appears in the actual film.
However, the Churchill-penned melody, arranged by Oliver Wallace, serves as leitmotif for another popular character - the crocodile, Captain Hook's archnemesis. It first can be heard on "The Legend of the Croc", and can be heard each time the crocodile appears in the film

• Numerous unused songs had been written for Peter Pan. One uncredited lyric sheet exists for a prosposed song about Never Land, which was later set to music by Richard Sherman for the 2007 DVD release, performed by Paige O'Hara
Frank Churchill and Larry Morey penned "When the Bos'n Pipes a Tune" for Captain Hook's crew to sing, as well as the "Pirate Song", which was intended to be sung to introduce the pirates early in the film

• The song "What Makes the Red Man Red" caused controversies in later years for the racialistic and offensive portrayal of Native American stereotypes, and the scene was often cut

• The score to Peter Pan and Steven Spielberg's Hook (1991) shares many similarities, adapted by composer John Williams, such as orchestration, and his trademark style, such as the light waltz in "What's a Kiss",
while his song "When You're Alone" has a distinct relationship to "Your Mother and Mine", as both are lullabys sung by female visitors to Never Land. Also, the tracks "Hook-Napped" (Hook) and "Tinknapped" (Peter Pan) share the same idea of a song title
