Default Surugaya “403 Forbidden nginx“

It happened yesterday and has never happened before. Is anyone else getting this error or is there a way to fix it?

I am getting it as well. This is when I navigate to https://www.suruga-ya.jp

I can however access https://www.suruga-ya.com

This has me wondering if suruga ya is restricting traffic to its JP site for users outside of Japan.

Would any users in Japan mind trying the JP site and seeing if it’s up?

It started happening after the site went down for maintenance yesterday. They are investigating: https://twitter.com/surugaya_kosin/s...78846009888768

Thanks for sharing that twitter link.

In that link, it looks like some customers are pretty angry. It looks like what happened is:

- suruga-ya.jp became unavailable outside of Japan
- suruga-ya tweeted that customers outside of Japan should now use the .com site, rather than the .jp site
- Some customers complained that the .com site has less items, and is not as good as the .jp site
- suruga-ya then said the unavailability of .jp was due to an unintentional maintenance issue, rather than due to a policy change
- Some customers though suruga-ya was lying about this, because in their first tweet, the change sounds fully intentional

Anyone knows a good and reliable proxy server as a possible workaround for the time being?

I think you would need to subscribe to a VPN in order to work around it.

Assuming this is temporary, I’d suggest just waiting it out. If the outage becomes very extended and it’s clear they’re not addressing it, then I’ll start looking at real solutions.

https://www.softether.org/

This is a free open source VPN developed by the University of Tsukuba, Japan. Many of the servers are located in Japan.
