No. Shōji Kawamori was too busy designing new Macross mechas and couldn't attend

The credits are probably not yet complete.

I hope this album's release bodes well for the Dragon's Crown soundtrack.

I would say that Basiscape released a soundtrack for Opoona years after the game came out bodes well for a Dragon's Crown soundtrack. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet though since it's a reasonably high profile game.

Don't worry; while I love me some Meguro riffs, his presence wasn't missed. Koduka & co. handily made the best SMT OST since Nocturne.

Oh my YHWH!

Note that Meguro isn't in the staff roll >>
In a recent-ish interview he said he has been purposely letting the other guys take over, they wouldn't grow if he was doing it all like in the PS2 era.

I added the tracklist with US names where I could recognize (very faithful actually).
The only exception is "Mansion of Heresy", since other OSTs have it, but maybe we could use the US name instead, "Cathedral of Shadows".

Looks great! I'd say we use Cathedral of Shadows for consistency's sake. To that end, the only other track name I noticed that didn't adhere to the localization was "White Men," which would instead be "The White."

I remember asking Kozuka on twitter about an eventual release and he said there weren't any plans for it. I had already given up on this soundtrack, but fortunately it's finally getting released.

Thanks a lot for the hi-res scans. I'm OCR-ing them (at the bottom) and try to translate (some of) them soon.

There's a few problems with the tracklist right now:

Disc 3 Track 6 (Members-Only Club) should be: CLUB MILTON
Disc 3 Track 7 (CLUB MILTON) should be: Members-only Club

and there's a very short extra (hidden) track 23 on Disc 4. It sounds like a scary sound effect.

*glances at the ratings*

Who in their right minds would troll such hot, tight shit with 0.5 or 1.0? Crazy.

Moved the arranger credits a bit for visual trasparency: Koduka first, for he arranged more tracks than Tsuchiya; now they're in the same order as in the composers.
In composers, moved Meguro before Aoki for the same reason.
Also same credits order in the notes.

If you want to completely adhere to the order as given in the booklet, please don't reject my entire edit (it contains more), just re-edit it. Thanks.

Finished listening to all the discs (listened to one disc a day). Disc 2>>Disc1>Disc3>Disc4.

Too much filler on a lot of these discs (Disc 2 is the exception) bringing the quality down; some tracks are very dull as they loop on very simple dreary sequences. I'd be interested to see a tracklist with ratings (screen capture iTunes/etc.) as listening to this ost would be preferable to listen to mp3s instead of repeated skipping tracks on a cd. I haven't listened to an entire SMT soundtrack outside this one, but the stuff I have listened to on the old school ones were better composed.

Favorite track: 'Tokyo'
Least favorite: 'Aquila Statue Plaza'

Most interesting track: 'Challenge Quest B' - sounds like some Gamecube commercial music or demo music. Works really great playing Super Mario Sunshine to.

I found this set very pleasant to listen. In fact, the aura in the tracks reminisce good old SMT songs, with repetitive arranges and unusual synth instruments to create a quite unique atmosphere. Yet, they spoiled some good songs like "Battle - c4" (based on Fiend from SMT 1). SMT III Nocturne arrange for this song is the best while in SMT IV it was troubled by some bad synth choices.
Also, the "Cathedral of Shadows" versions here just grate in the ears despite being well composed pieces.

I just listened to SMT 1 & 2 on youtube. Yea, the 'Cathedral of Shadows' tracks are much worse. They sound like a wall of sound hitting you. The soundtrack really doesn't push the hardware the way the old games did.

I disagree now with my filler comment. I do find the timbres in tracks like 'Premonition' to be very boring. Skip tracks like 'Battle - B6' and 'Purgatorium'. 'Battle - B8' starts off with bad midi brass sound and makes you want to turn it off, but then it turns into good music like the PC game "Descent".

The composers do a great job of setting up a desolate environment sound to then exploding into a fight to the death.

-edit pending-

The Cathedral of Shadows in IV is supposed to be akin to a smartphone app, so the relative low-fi approach to those themes works to contrast them from the "reality" of the game world. I like 'em! I'm particularly crazy about the arrangement of Neo Jakyou (#4), I think it sounds just as good as the original. Every time I got it in-game, I would have to stop and listen to the whole thing.

This album is pretty ace. Given that Shoji Meguro wants to do only saccharine pop-rock vocal songs these days, Kozuka might be the one to keep eye on instead.

There should be a few more mentions of arranges from past games in the notes, no? "Terminal," "Traffic," and "law - origin -" are all from SMT1 and "chaos - origin -" is from SMT2.

Yes, you can add these, there's already a section in the notes. Try to follow the format and cite the original track names, games and composers.
