Pretty surprising to see how the catalog numbering of King Records VGM related releases jumps and is mixed.
I thought KICA-7XXX releases would be more recent than KICA-1XXX releases, but no. It actually mixed those over the years. Also there are only few releases numbered as KICA-75XX, and only two VGM albums released under KICA-74XX (and way later). Last edited by dma; Jul 2, 2018 at 12:27 AM. |

actually no, it's not surprising since record companies like king, pony, avex etc. assign specific catalogues to external labels (like falcom, konami, scitron, etc.)
those specific catalogues, to stay specific, need to be separated from normal cataloguing |

Well, when it comes to Konami releases, these are spread over most the catalog numbers i referenced.
Example here: https://vgmdb.net/org/72?field=date&...der=asc&page=2 But refering to your point, I guess Konami had in-house people producing some of the albums up to a certain production stage (KICA-7XXX), when some other releases were "totally" handled by King Records (KICA-1XXX). Noticing also that some KICA-7XXX and KICA-1XXX are produced in the same studio (but yes, it's just a place where any music is recorded and mastered). Falcom releases stay more in the KICA-1XXX range, then shared with some Konami releases, and produced by King Records : https://vgmdb.net/org/55?field=date&...der=asc&page=3 ...And after browsing several albums, the difference seems to be that KICA-7XXX are just "distributed" by King Records, when they took more part in the production of KICA-1XXX releases. Then why some KICA-9XXX releases also? (actually used for special "box" releases it seems) Why only few releases in the KICA-75XX range, quickly jumping to KICA-76XX? It's weird seeing this org as under both Manufacturer and Distributor for most discographies since CDs started selling. Checking the scans on most of its albums, it only shows the phonographic copyright and nothing else. Sure the Manufacturer and Distributor roles are the default, but King Record has sometimes placed the Manufacturer role in some albums (especially mini CD singles; https://vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=view&cover=460623, https://vgmdb.net/db/covers.php?do=view&cover=301776) and only Distributor role in sister orgs like Index Music and Konami.
The only major Japanese music org I know that has a valid Manufacturer and Distributor role (outside subsidiaries) is Victor Entertainment (https://vgmdb.net/org/77, https://vgmdb.net/org/1926). |
