Site Design Update
Since the old header design was getting rather cramped and showed discrepancies when you moved between the main site and forums, I've done a moderate redesign. All the old links are still there, just ordered and grouped differently. The main navigation row now consists of all the information listings, while the peripheral tools have been moved to the smaller bar. Also, note the links at the top right -- they alternate between login / register for guests, and member menu / logout for logged in members. A feature I plan to add soon is a flashing email icon that appears beside your username if you have unread private messages. Let me know what you think of the changes!
Regarding the index page, do you think a uniform background color would look better, or the rounded box is fine as it is? Indicate your preference in the poll and I'll make the adjustments accordingly. |

It'll be a while before individual track and product pages are implemented, but this will be more or less the main navigation set eventually. Icon designs are not final. When you're logged in, clicking on your username displays a dropdown menu where you can access your collection list, among other pages. |

It looks pretty neat. I think the only thing that got lost is the language switching drop-down menu.
Also, radio? |

Oh yeah, forgot about that. The column show/hide and language switcher will be put in an "Options" dropdown menu next to Contact.
I'm going to make a page dedicated to VGM radio stations. magfest.org's radio links to us, so they'll have a nice cozy spot there. |

Redesign looks excellent, Blah. If anything, I'd size=1 the top-right links.

I think the buttons are a little bit too big. Also nitpick the order of the link bar. I'd reorder it based on average-case use: advanced, update, submit, forum, market, calender, radio, stat (but that's just me).
Rounded edges fits the with the rest of the site on the index, but either way is fine. |

Looks really nice, this does. It'll take a while for me to get used to it, but as of right now I have no complaints or suggestions. Good job!

Pretty neat indeed! I find that the icons and text links are a tad too dark and subdued though, yet they shouldn't be too bright either to go along the site's dark theme.

Very nice work, Blah. Color me impressed. You definitely have an eye for style.
Also, for those who wanna see what the uniform background color option would (ideally) look like.. http://home.nycap.rr.com/mterry/vgmdb.png I definitely like it like that. -Mike |

Gigablah, you have excellent coding skills and good design sense. This is a project you can be proud of (and an excellent item on your resume/C.V.).

Looks really good. I really like the fact that nothing hurts my eyes (isn't too bright) and the overall design is just great. About the index page, I like the uniform color although I don't really care too much either way.

I voted no, I like the "box" look like it is now. Also, very nice redesign for the site, it looks great!

I like the new layout. I think it makes sense how things are currently organized. However, I do feel that some areas could be "promoted" for greater accessibility. Events and Users are two areas that will probably get very little real use. Whereas Forums and Marketplace, for example, are two major attractions. The big attractions should get the top spots with the icons. Actually, I think it would be good swapping those four; Calendar and Events would go well next to each other also. Users could optionally go over by statistics.

The navigation is configured that way for coherency; top row is for information listings, lower bar is for site interactivity. Plus, I'm planning to have the icons reveal an additional alphabetical index bar when you click on them, which would save you a page jump. (That's why they're grouped the way they are; most of them involve alphabetical listings). However there's a good chance that "events" will be merged into the calendar page -- utilizing calendar.php when month and date aren't specified -- since (a) it isn't alphabetically sorted, (b) two more information listings will be joining the top row eventually and I'll need to rebalance the navigation.
