Something I've figured out recently.
1. Masaru was responsible for Sonic Jam's music along with Kenichi Tokoi. Note the credit title "Compose & Arrange." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SERdCIuiouo at 1:13 2. Among these tracks are a rearrangement of Sonic 3's Data Select Screen in Gallery, and the use of the same instruments and [almost the same] melody as Data Select Screen for Sonic World. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ocIpDz9zTM - Gallery http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQiSqjjr3Ig - Sonic World 3. Kenichi Tokoi was not credited in Sonic 3, as Sonic Jam was one of his first games with Sega. http://www.mobygames.com/developer/s...loperId,52518/ Therefore, Masaru Setsumaru composed Sonic 3's Data Select Screen. Mini unofficial breakdown for Sonic Jam Masaru Setsumaru: Opening, Sonic World, Gallery, Mission Start, Mission Finish 1, Mission Finish 2, Credits [Higher audio quality among all these] [Movies and extras] Kenichi Tokoi: Game Select, Digital Manual, Time Attack, Best Lap, Result 1 [TA], Result 2 [TA] [Lower audio quality and shared instruments (i.e. Sax, which is also his distnguishing instrument in Sonic Adventure)] [Menus] Be sure to check out my other Sonic 3 & Knuckes observations here: http://vgmdb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2067 Last edited by kyubihanyou; Apr 10, 2011 at 11:29 AM. |

From Sonic & Knuckles Collection for the PC:
http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_%26...onsole_version Sound Coordinator: Masaru Setsumaru Sound Arrangers: Shigeaki Irie (USP), Masaaki Nishizawa (USP), Goro Takahashi (USP) So I guess Setsumaru was the one who created those nine replacement compositons. |

Where do the birthdate and city come from? Google search on 瀬津丸勝 and 1971 reveals nothing.

And his YouTube account says his age is 40. But this is wrong anyway, his birthday being August 7, 1971 would make him 39. I August 7, 1970 is his real birthday. Sorry for my lame math skills. :P His FB profile also lists Kanazawa-shi, Ishikawa, Japan as his hometown. |

Just a quick note: edits such as these require the posting of a source, particularly if it's not easilly found.
Facebook pages are a bit more tricky to use, because if his profile is not public, he may not want this information revealed in online biographies. Do you have a link for his page? |

Wow, I never responded to this? I finally checked and yea, his birthday isn't shown publicly. Does this warrant a removal?
Also, this has an alleged picture of him. I wonder what's the source? ALSO, I believe to have found his Twitter handle, oyz7963. It's the same as his email listed on his FB page. Last edited by dissident93; Mar 10, 2012 at 12:03 PM. |

I try to only add personal info from Facebook that's publicly viewable to people who aren't logged in, but that's me personally and I don't think we've ever formalized anything about that. (Likewise, I don't even link Facebook accounts if they're completely private from people who aren't logged in.)
oyz7963 is a pretty unusual username so that Twitter account is probably his, but the bio is pretty generic and doesn't outright identify him as Setsumaru. I do see he's friends with Hideaki Kobayashi, Hideki Naganuma, Keiichi Sugiyama, and a few other non-Sega VGM folks. Last edited by CHz; Mar 10, 2012 at 05:00 PM. |

I don't know what the source is, but here is another page with the picture of the same guy called the same name.

! I've seen another pic of that same guy credited as Masaru. I'll send him the pic to see if it's really him.
EDIT: It's him. Last edited by dissident93; Mar 23, 2012 at 10:31 PM. |

I just noticed this, but where is the edit field for the a composer's aliases? Setsu should have Oyz as his, and I added this to the variation field because I could not find the correct field to put it in.

You have to have an album where he's credited under that name and link it to the artist entry.

Has he been asked about his involvement with Sonic 2 yet? Lately, I've been trying to think up a question to ask him.

Seems Setsumaru might have left SEGA a couple years ago? He's credited for Special Thanks in both Toaplan ARCADE SOUND DIGITAL COLLECTION Vol.5 and SNK ARCADE SOUND DIGITAL COLLECTION VOL.10, neither saying he works for SEGA, so he's probably a freelancer now.
EDIT: Hmm, maybe not. A recent article from 4Gamer has him listed as being from SEGA. Last edited by Nicolaas Hamman; Jan 14, 2021 at 06:16 AM. |
